@jetah I see your point. Still, your tier 3 spell will also be buffed in effectiveness by your stats, while the scroll will not. In addition to this, perhaps a certain mechanic should be implemented to make crafting spell scrolls difficult. Especially in higher tiers. This will make them expensive, and thus people will not have or use them very often. Also, adding a scroll to your active skill bar will lock you in combat with a limited use skill that is not as powerful as your actual skills (which get buffed by your stats).
@Dybuk You certainly have a point... perhaps the ability to read should be a trait you can earn... It could also be different for each race... And have chat locked off with other races unless either you know their language, or they know yours. could be a cute immersion element.

@jetah I was mostly referring to the fact that you can still cast a lightning bolt from the scroll with a low intelligence modifier, but it will do a lot less damage, or it will simply do the base damage, of the spell, while those who know that spell will also factor in their stat based multiplier, making the spell much more effective.

I doubt a single use spell will make a game braking experience. Especially since without actual power (right stats, plus knowledge) it would be the weakest version of the spell. So I don't see why not. You could have spell scrolls to help you with certain tasks like... unlocking sealed gates, achieving a knowledge hunt (kill x many creatures with fire) where you wear them down with your regular skills and just use the scroll for the final blow. I think it would be an interesting mechanic, and a nice, profitable profession. Just my two cents though.

RE: Fog of War
@jetah I'm not referring to the ability to see the terrain behind the wall, but the actors. Se how Total War did it. You can't see actors if you don't have line of sight. I'd love to see that implemented. I think it would make the game play allot more tactical. Also add true projectiles so you can't shoot a bow/icebolt into a player that's standing behind a prop or another player/critter. But that might be just me

RE: Fog of War
@jetah It's not just about being able to shoot through the wall, but also about being able to see through it.
-
RE: Fog of War
@jetah Not necessarily fog of war, but line of sight should definitely be a factor in my opinion. I mean, what's the point in hiding behind a wall/tree/whatever if the enemy can still see you and cast his spells/shoot his bow at you.
@Finland sure it would be useful to gankers, but it will also be useful to those trying to escape gankers. In fact, if the watchtower mechanic is implemented, those trying to escape gankers would have a massive advantage with line of sight blockers. Also, high perception and lore characters could notice sudden change in behavior of the local fauna and predict that someone is trying to sneak up on them. Could easily be implemented with a ping indicating the direction of the danger. -

@esher :)) you shouldn't have informed us about it... now those looking for easy wins are going to challenge you.

RE: The Fractured Fist Tavern
Alas! Fair friends! Your reputation in this world matters beyond what meets the eyes at first glance. For what is a man, without his word? What is an army commander without the admiration of his troops? What is a merchant, without the respect and trust of his customers? Nothing! I tell ye! And what better place to forge a reputation, then among your brethren spilling ale and tales of your adventures, in the Fractured Fist Tavern where bards will hear your story, and forge it into epic poems that will spread your fame from the lush forests of Elysium, to the molten lava pits of Tartaros. Come thus, fair friends! Indulge yourselves with the very best of ale and share your conquest and trouble alike, with the merry men of The Fractured Fist! Oh and last but not least, we have a dueling contest fit for the glorious name of our exquisite establishment. Challenge your friend, or your foe to a fist fight at the Fractured Fist. The winner will be rewarded with free ale, and the reputation he or she so clearly deserves. The rules are simple. The challenger must begin the duel wit a statement. Each fighter will take turns punching back with a mocking line. The most intricate sarcastic remarks will win the hearts of our patrons (most likes) and the bout. Each fighter may punch 5 times. But the bout may not last longer than a full day cycle.

RE: About the races
@salgados2 If I understand this correctly, Daemons may travel to other worlds to plunder. Something like how Danes made raids into Britain during the IX-th and X-th Centuries. They where generally regarded as plundering marauders, yet there where some locals who chose to trade with them, perhaps gift their way to safety. Now I'm not sure how this will work in game, but perhaps there will be evil aligned human settlements that will not immediately have daemons flagged as enemies. I may have gotten everything wrong though... so don't take it as fact!

@jetah analysis of flaws though, shouldn't turn into a "deus vult!", "purge the heretic", crusade. anyway... love this thread. Kudos to all participants!

RE: πΊββββββ’ βββ π¦ββββββ‘ββ’β
This conversation is slowly turning form: "hey, here's an idea to give players an amazing experience" into "let's not try cool stuff because someone might try to exploit it". We are talking about a game, not about assault rifles, god dammit! There will always be people trying to cheat, exploit and so on. I've never seen a single game that has no cheats/exploits whatsoever. Does it mean we should stop making games? Don't think so...

@rolanstorm Someow, i feel like having a player turn into a really powerful monster, but completely cutting him off from the "civilized" world (no access to cities unless hidden, no interaction with NPCs other than combat) is not imbalanced. It just adds another dimension to the game, allowing you to become the villain. Perhaps forcing you to find a hide spot where you can build up your "lair" and strengthen it with infected monsters or even other PCs. Left unchecked this lair would become a threat to the nearby city and a raid party would have to be organized so they can clear the lair, defeat the powerful vampire and then cure him. There's plenty of cool things a developer could do for a game, with the right mechanics implemented. It is a whole different story, to persuade stakeholders to actually take that risk though.

RE: πΊββββββ’ βββ π¦ββββββ‘ββ’β
Yup, implementing game changing mechanics like vampirism would be pretty cool... As long as they are well intertwined with the rest of the game. Sadly most games I've played that had them, they where pretty poorly done.

RE: Π‘heat attributes.
@fibs Hey man... here's a different perspective. Donald Trump is a Charismatic person who was able to fool enough people to vote for him to become President... Yet, those who don't like him, HATE him! That's how charisma should work in games as well. Highly intelligent people have a tendency to fall to arrogant behavior and constantly try to prove they are smarter then everyone else... which attracts plenty of backfire from the people around them who feel constantly insulted. Not sure if you've ever met one, but really good detectives, the ones with high perception are also suspicious of everything and quite paranoid. Very strong people have reduced mobility due to muscle mass getting in the way of their limbs as they move... that's why coaches usually forbid Olympic fencers from training for muscle mass (of course, the OP has got this one wrong... but it doesn't mean his idea is bad). I can't really think of a RL drawback of being dexterous though, nor for having a good constitution.
-
RE: Π‘heat attributes.
@finland Yes, personality comes from players but how is an arrogant player's behavior going to influence his relations with an NPC? This game is also an RPG (role playing game) Meaning that you create a character and you role-play that character. Perhaps you don't know, but all classical RPGs had your attributes influence your character's personality to some respect. Certainly, the initial post gave some examples of what these modifiers could be. Some weren't the happiest choices like the one for dexterity, which doesn't really make sense to me, but that doesn't mean the idea of adding these modifiers as a social drawback for "going too far", is bad... It's in fact quite brilliant. It certainly needs tweaking. Like adaptation to race god and alignment modifiers, as some attributes may be highly praised in certain communities, while frowned upon in others. Think of being fat in modern society's developed countries vs. developing countries as an example.

RE: Π‘heat attributes.
@finland Immersion! Arrogance, Paranoia, Jealousy... they are all deciding factors in the real wold, why not having them in the game as well? It would add a touch of character to the game. Think of Darkest Dungeon and it's psyche management mechanics... the game would be a lot less entertaining without them. Though not necessarily in the form presented, I find this an interesting tweak. Sure some balancing is required but it would certainly create room for plenty viable builds that are not min maxed, thus giving variety to the game. It comes down to how much effort it takes to implement on the developer's behalf though. Sometimes, it's unwise to go for every good idea.
