RE: Role play?
@kellewic They are. But the world does not make it easy for them. In fact, a chaotic evil should be greeted with hostility even by those of his own alignment. That's why there are very few serial killers IRL. And even fewer who last long enough to have an impact. The problem with most open world PVP games is that there is no real punishment from being a pk-er. The world does not react to you ant you don't stand to loose pretty much, anything. Unlike your victims. It's incredibly bad for business as well, but that's a story for another time!

RE: Role play?
@jetah IRL, it's a whole country, not just a city! Oh and IRL it is forbidden to kill your enemy unless you are in an actual war-zone, and you have orders to kill! For ex, if an Israeli soldier on leave, stumbles upon a Palestinian soldier in a bar or just walking around the streets, he is not allowed to harm him. Just saying. Go back a century, prior to WWI, historical accounts abound about enemy platoons marching by each other during maneuvering in times of war. They would, curse and throw rocks at each other, but not a single gun would be discharged. The march wouldn't even halt. All this, while those soldiers where bound to fight each other, next morning. And yes, I am talking about all out war here! You see, IRL, people are not very fond of killing each other. That's why I generally find pvp without purpose to be plain stupid when you are trying to create an immersive world. If it's just an arena, then yes... it makes sense, and it's fun. But immersive worlds can't have mindless killing. That basically destroys the world you are trying to immerse yourself into. By role play, I don't necessarily mean talking like a Shakespeare fanboy. I mean making decisions as if you where that very character, not an outside god toying with it. I mean, taking into account your character's beliefs, fears, needs and desires, and acting accordingly.

RE: Role play?
@muker my friend, thank you for your timely answer. Will you be fair, will you be greedy? Will you give to charity only to forward your hidden agenda, or will you be helpful to those in need. Will you be brave, or will you sneak behind the unwary? Let us unleash our imagination and create characters with life for it is characters that make the world what it is.

Role play?
Hello,
I've read very vivid conversations about game mechanics, balancing, pvp, economy, pve, even more mechanics, data sheets, min maxing, horizontal progression, more mechanics, I win buttons, loot, mechanics again...
What about role play? Does anyone still role play in twenty eighteen? Or is it all about winning, and making the perfect avatar for the job.Well, if you do plan to, what would you like to experience in Fractured? Not what, but WHO will your character be?

RE: Construction? Other than villages.
I want my crossroads inn! where people can stop and rest for a fee... also resupply if i have supplies to sell. But building and maintaining it operational, should be no easy feat.

RE: What unusual weapon types would you like to see?
@fibs Drawing your sword in the middle of a fight in a timely manner, is a skill most medieval soldiers would have envied. Warriors carried sidearms because it's really easy to loose your main weapon in the middle of the fight.(Disarms, getting stuck in an opponent body or shield, getting tangled in opponents armor and so forth) at which point you break distance, pull your sidearm and hope for the best. As for your other arguments, historically, bodyguards mostly relied on halberds, Dane axes (also considered a pole arm) and zweihanders (in a very particular way meant mostly to create a wide danger zone and prevent assailants from closing while the noble was hiding behind the bodyguard) Guess what... that's what they used indoors as well. Perhaps you think they where stupid, or perhaps you think their assailants where dumb. I personally don't really think so. But to support my argument, i urge you to grab a pole and play around with it for a couple of weeks. You don't even need to study treatises with techniques. Just play around with it... you'll see just how useful it is even in close quarters. A single tip if I may... a spear thrusts faster (up to 3 to 1 for an untrained spearman) then the rapier, and you can grab it as close to the tip as you need to. It's also a lot less tiresome since you're handling similar weights, 1.4-2 kg, with both hands, instead of just one.
Oh, and here's a little preview of how a sword&buckler vs spear really looks like:

RE: What unusual weapon types would you like to see?
@fibs If you where paying attention to my argument, i was referring to the fact that spears are OP in REAL LIFE. The only weapon that was consistently used for WAR (totally different from duels or other civilian encounters), by literally every culture, in every time period, throughout human history. The mounted bayonet, which is a variation of the pole arm and pretty much retains all of the viable techniques, is still being used in modern warfare.
Here's an account for reference: http://www.badassoftheweek.com/index.cgi?id=905475926435
If you think a polearm is useless in mid to close range, this is obviously due to Hollywood/gaming industry myths. Grab one and play around with it. You'll find out they are incredibly versatile. True, indoors, not so much, but for war purposes, it's pretty much the best tool for the job. You should also consider the fact that they where generally used in formation. Closing the distance against a line of trained spearmen wasn't really an option unless you where suicidal, or decked in the best full plate armor from head to toe (only available from late XV-th century onwards)! As i mentioned before, it's not impossible to implement and balance polearms, but they will not really feel like polearms. Oh, and I'm the sword type, so i'm not subjective here. I just recognize facts.

@xanowrath said in What unusual weapon types would you like to see?:
+1 for polearms! So underrepresented in games these days.
Most likely, because they are so OP they have been used in real wars for over 3000 years. (Last known successful bayonet charge was done in Irak, 2004 by a British squad that got ambushed by AKs and grenade launchers and shit) Balance that without making it feel dull!

RE: First Fractured Gameplay Video Released!
- Swimming is not in the picture so far I'm afraid.
Will we be able to freeze the river and cross over?

RE: Gameplay suggestion after seeing vid
@benseine Since endurance acts here very similar to a hit points in other games, this will be very difficult to balance. On one hand, you will want high endurance regen after sprinting (which is quite similar to how it is IRL), and on the other hand you will want very low endurance regen to punish getting hit.

RE: Suggestion about hunger/thirst
@polios3 i'f we're into speculating... how about having really bad seasons where food is scarce, and driven by hunger, players will wage war against neighboring settlements to raid and pillage? Sadly, i doubt it will happen since if you make food & drinks vital, many will complain the game is no longer fun.
-
RE: Insurance / blessing system?
@fibs I think this is bad, since it detracts from the thrill. If you're not taking risks, everything is easy, and easy means boring. Still I wouldn't completely dump the insurance idea. I mean, you could have items insured for a small weekly fee, and should you loose them, the insurance company could pay reparations. The fee would be established based on your reputation with the company. Still this could totally be done by enterprising players with the already planned in-game mechanics, so devs don't really need to create new systems.

However, we should move this discuss since the topic here is Hunger/Thirst.
Slow, agonizing ways to die, aren't they?

RE: Suggestion about hunger/thirst
@kralith Some kill for pleasure, indeed. Most of us though, at least so I hope, only kill out of necessity. Therefore, if it has to be done, it should be swift and cause little pain. None if possible! Let's call it, warrior's mercy. Besides, for practical purposes, if you don't disable your opponent really fast, you give him more time to fight back. I've seen plenty of arrogant officers "gracefully" stab their opponent in the chest with their nimble blades, all the way through to the guard, only to receive a skull shattering after-blow to the face. The officer fell dead on the spot, while the poor stabbed bastard kept fighting for a couple dozen seconds before his lungs collapsed and he fell breathless, face down, into the blood-soaked mud. None was victorious. None had gain! Yet both their families mourn today!

Like @Gibbx said, if the gods wanted to taste coffee like milk and sugar they had give them the flavor
Did the gods brew your coffee for you? No? Then I guess you should eat the beans raw lol
The gods gave us iron. We've smelted it into steel and forged it into blades. The gods gave us coffee. Some brew it, and have it black, while other prefer a milder taste. I like both. Unlike swords. I only like my sword sharp! It needs to match my wits and temper!

RE: Suggestion about hunger/thirst
well, well... Let the coffee wars begin! Tartaros will likely gain independence. Then proceed forth to dominate the worlds of Elysium by bombing the hospitals, schools and other civilian assets of anyone that dares say nay!

@mazikar sounds about right. Nothing you can't solve with a couple of beers, right? There's no need to be uncivil.
