Alpha 2

  • Does anybody know how long the Alpha 2 Test phase will last? Is it going to be for weeks at a time, or only test weekends?

@Norseman I do not have the answer for your question, but if we examine all the content, which is planned to be included, we could presume we have several weeks stuff to test out for row. 🤔

    Roadmap to A2

  • Well, I keep hearing a lot of talk about test "weekends" and when the next test "weekend" will be. So, if Alpha 2 is only available to play on weekends, then I won't buy the key, because I can't play on weekends.

@Norseman If I remember right, those upcoming test weekends will be there to replace A1 T3/T4, which were left out of the original test plan. So A2 will start after those test weekends.. However, I hope someone confirms this, because I am not 100% sure... 😉

Also, I don’t think it would be a good idea to buy in for the sake of playing.

    This so much!
People easily get confused with 'playing a game' while it is still in alpha, because some developers release beta content and label it alpha.

@Logain Yeah you are right, but on top of that some games can be quite playable even those are at alpha state. Albion for example was very playable in alpha, but it depends a lot of game too I guess.

If we think of Fractured and how much there is content planned for A2, it sounds like several weeks of testing. At least town building/progression and knowledge system are features, which needs a good amount of time to be tested properly.

    @Tuoni

Regardless of whether the testing phases will last weeks on end, there won’t be much to truly play for a good while longer.

My advise would be to wait for the betas (likely even the later ones) if that’s what is driving your purchase.

@Pluto I expect us to see a good amount of playable content in A2, but not that much what I saw in Albion. My point was that there will be features, which needs much more testing than a week or two to give enough valueable feedback.

I have actually bought B1 package, and for the reason you mentioned, I want to focus my testing to point when there is a lot of content and the game is closer of actual release. However, I tested in the A1/T2, but because I was lucky and I won a key.

@Norseman Certainly longer than a weekend. 😉 The test weekends are just replacing the 3rd and 4th test of alpha 1.

  • @Specter Thank you very much for clearing that up. I’m definitely buying an alpha 2 key. This game looks like everything I’ve ever wanted in an MMO. I’m all in!

That's what I meant to point out. A game is in beta when it is playable, simply because alpha means that it is not feature complete.

Albion was not feature completed in alpha, not even close, but those features which were was working nicely and created enough good entirety so it could be tested several weeks for row. However, there was still a clear gap between alpha and beta so I do not see any problem with the naming of phases.

It will last for sure at least one week, then, we have to see how the players will react to the new Knowledging system, so maybe more!
