Writing books?
-
Some sandbox MMOs, like Mortal Online and Project: Gorgon, feature an option where players can write permanent books in-game that can be distributed and part of the lore.
Could, and should, that be an option for Fractured?
-
UO had the same thing. You could use inscription to copy a book. I would use these for guild recruitment. I also had a book for guild rules. I would just hand them out to new players lol.

Clever use of the mechanic.
Apps like Discord and Guilded make some of these superfluous, but since Fractured is pitching itself as a hardcore sandbox MMO in the style of UO and others, I hope the devs include features like these and heavily incentivize their use.
It would be cool to add to the world building by writing books, though. The devs envision a game where players years from now can stumble across the ruins of previous player settlements and build their towns over them. It seems appropriate then that players could find player written books describing figures and guilds and battles from months and years past.

i like this idear takeing a mental image of a monster , then being able to draw it later, and the more you observe kill the monster the more info you get about it like weaknesses breeding habbits
players could make and sell there own beasterys ,
could do the same for growing plants and making potions
being able to draw little diagrams and put recipes underneath

Iโm not sure how the game would handle a drawing/artistic function, but I love the idea of players creating content and lore during exploration. Player written bestiaries are a great idea!

until you read a book and it's nothing but furry porn.

I'd rather not, while the creative freedom is nice and it's a cool idea to hand it off to the players in practice, 99% of the time it's fucking terrible.

will you be responsible for minors reading porn?
-
@Jetah Perhaps the same people will be responsible as the ones who will bare responsibility for a minor being coaxed into engaging in furry cyber sex.

Well that escalated quickly.
I didnโt imagine players wasting their time writing erotica on a video game for the corruption of minors. Maybe the ability to write books could be reserved for high end intelligence or perception players?

while intentions are good about writing in game, it'll be used for anything to bypass filters parents may have setup. it's a liability for DS even if they're in another part of the world.
if you give the players a creative way to express themselves some will use it wrong and it'll get removed.

This has already been implemented in numerous games since the late 90s and I have YET to see a report about such things. While times have changed, we should encourage people to be better, not use game mechanics to force them to be better (though I concede there may be times when a hand is forced). You could always remove it later if necessary.
if you give the players a creative way to express themselves some will use it wrong and it'll get removed.
By this logic, anything that promotes creativity should be preemptively removed. Want to design the crest you paid for? Nah, promotes creativity. Want to chat to your guild? Nah, you may wax poetic; Better to just make everyone mute and pass the buck to a third-party program like Discord. That will keep people playing and immersed.
Are there people out there who may abuse these things? Sure. There always are. However, the proper way to deal with these events is to foster an environment of productivity and help and don't glorify the "git gud scrub" crowd who tends to build on these sentiments.
And THEN if people want to abuse the system, you can revisit it as a concept.

i doubt you'll personally get a report of it.
Neverwinter added in a way for players to create stories via game mechanics. people created xp maps for exploitative leveling.
archeage allowed any image to be imported to the game. people put hentai and other explicit images in.if it can be exploited, it will be. it's best to keep it out of the game and let people use 3rd party websites to host it.

Nearly anything in an online video game has potential for abuse and exploitation. These very forums, Discord voice and text chat, global, guild, and private chats can all relay content that it is caustic to minors.
By that logic, the game shouldnโt even exist lol.
Have a mechanism in place to report inappropriate content to moderators, set book writing to require a high number of skill points assigned to intelligence or other traits so as to filter out people who would casually abuse the system, and donโt allow images to be uploaded into books.

Players could be standing on a meadow in the way so their bodies form inappropriate shapes. Standing should not be part of a game!
