Forum Chat

@casgadom Good point. And the forum software they're using totally allows for chat messages retention: https://community.nodebb.org/topic/3473/are-chat-messages-ever-deleted
Edit: they could probably use this plugin or a similar one to enable functionality: https://github.com/Schamper/nodebb-plugin-shoutbox

I've been thinking some more about and it made me wonder, what would happen when this forum has thousands of people browsing it? Imagine thousands of people chatting in a chat that quickly deteriorates to the quality of Twitch chat. It would be an absolute nightmare for the devs and mods.
-
You 'could' get rid of that if you set some requirements for using the chat (don't know if this is possible with the plugin) - like you can only use the chat if your account is at least 14 days old and you wrote at least 10 posts in specific forum areas.
There will always be people abusing whatever system you choose to protect something, but maybe you can filter some of the trolls
-
@lohen We created the chat to be easier to interact with each others, not to get daily post ahah I answer a lot of topics daily so I donΒ΄t even need to worry about that
@Vengu Almost every forum with thousands of people have chat box, just add the option to delete the older messages to avoid to much data in the database and should work out well I think
-
@frost @Casgadom @HolyAvengerOne There won't be a chatbox. It's simply too much work to moderate.
-
@specter Mkay. Maybe there is some kind of 'chat' solution in the future, but for now it's fine I think. Forum works like a charm and people are active - way more important right now

How is the Discord really different, fundamentally speaking? Unless the Discord we know isn't "officially" official?
-
@Casgadom the forum already has a "regular" chat system - it's the one @HolyAvengerOne has pointed out, you access it with the button in the top-right corner of the screen  If you're talking of a "shoutbox", that won't happen because of the reasons I've explained above - and indeed you generally don't find it in official MMO forums. In fact, I don't recall seeing a large forum with a shoutbox feature in years.
If you want a more structured chat instead of the simple one NodeBB offers, with different channels for different languages and topics, voice channels, we have a Discord channel!
@HolyAvengerOne implementing a system as wide and powerful as Discord (which, on top of the above, includes user roles, advanced moderation and anti-spam options, and much more) in our NodeBB forum would probably be the biggest waste of time for our devs that I can think of

Thanks for the replies, Promoetheus I would never ever suggest taking one of the game devs' time to do this, hehe Just meant to express to some of the posters here the fact that there are many options depending on what you guys are going for.
That being said, I see managing and moderating a Discord just as time-consuming and intense (more?) than a simple shoutbox, unless I'm missing something? Is that Discord "officially" official, i.e. in the sense that the code of conduct should apply there the same way it applies on the forums?

Yes, it is

Ok good So only a matter of time and people until the discord will see more activity (I'm a bad lurker too, I know )
-
Well I knew from the very start that Discord existed, I just was suggesting cus in one way would be somewhat good to have, tho it's not something that canΒ΄t be avoided
