The riddle cave

Well, though counterintuitive and the answer being arguable, that riddle still made us think, which is good
Don't think anybody is going to blame you personally, so, keep going
-
Haha, I'm at school at the moment, I'll post after

So, an (maybe) easy one ^^
Avalon is a squared island (please don't try to find logic !! ) surrounded by a 4 meters wide (or width, don't know ><) river. We have two planks of 3,90 meters long ans some centimeters large.
How coud you reach the island with your two planks ?Here a little picture to help you (I warn, don't ask if Avalon is really a tiny island ! I can't do a huge island on my workspace )
-
I assume 'swim' is an invalid answer in this scenario?

T'was in the forest when I got it,
So I sat me down to find it,
I could not find it no matter how long I looked,
So I took it home with me.What was it?
Note: Baldur's Gate 2 players keep quiet.
-
You put on the planks as stilts and just walk across

I'd suggest waiting for the winter in this scenario as well

A splinter? Pretty nasty things, sometimes get them so deep underskin
-
Fresh air, far from the city ?
-
Nope, it was splinter. Got it almost right away.
Based on this individual sample case, I suspect game nerds are way better than regular people at riddles.
I stand by my statistical sampling method.

Or it's nerds who resort to particular kinds of games because of riddles to solve there
For example, I always liked cRPG's, RPG's, strategies, grew up on such games. And books. Not a genius myself, but still like to challenge my mind with what they can provide me with. Not in a min-maxing way, but in a way when you can try different things and actually get something out of them, while still RP'ing. And diversity and RP elements are what I'm actually expecting from Fractured Many MMO's are a disappointment for me because of lack of aforementioned. Now I just keep myself busy with Dragon Age series and Pillars, mostly.
However, that Avalon riddle has me puzzled, can't come up with a sane answer involving both planks

This should work. If you actually do the math, 3.9m would be more than enough length for the planks in the picture, so yes there is plenty of space sticking out on land.Edit: Please do excuse my 1 minute paint skills.

I'm so embarrassed I didn't think of it, really simple
But, please, send answers in PM to @Esher next time. Some people here don't give up till the very end
-
@chrightt Aaaaah, shame on you But you have the right answer ^^ I will post the next riddle this evening ^^
People who found : lehuan, chrightt, vengu, tulukaruk, and I lost some conversations, so I don't know if somebody else found it ^^

@fyrsey @Esher Ah sorry, I thought you couldn't attach image to pm so I posted it here. My bad.
Actually, I didn't see any way to attach it in PM, just upload on imgur or something, and link it

So, as I don't need to post the answer, here is the next one
You have a banner composed with 8 squares with this arrangement :
How could you place the numbers from 1 to 8 in such a way that no one will be in contact, either by a side or a diagonal, with a consecutive number (so, the 3 could not have 4 and 2 in one of his diagonale or one of his side)
-
@esher Well this one is easy.
-
I can think of a hint, ask me in PM if interested
