People spamming other forums with their refferal codes should be banned

Reports of spammed referral codes should certainly be taken seriously. I'd like to see them ban or otherwise adjust so that there is no credit given. Maybe even make referrals off spammed codes a negative, so that such actions don't remove a person, but rather make them lose credit for all current referrals and several legitimate ones down the line.
Simply put, anyone willing to spam referrals is just looking to profit themselves, and should be dealt with as a potential threat to having a good community. Reports shouldn't just be taken at face value as proof, of course, in turn!

Chill guys, no need to turn that into an internets war
I wonder what the developer thinks of having a system for deactivating referral links that are being abused/spammed? Maybe that would be too much policing though.
All I wish is that it is made very clear who is your referrer and the fact you have one, at the time of signup. It shouldn't be sneaky/hidden like Ashes of Creation did.

On a more serious note, though, one of the previous games worked on by some of the Fractured guys got some bad PR from an arguably similar system being abused. I mean, I'm no marketing expert, but overall I assume it did more good than bad.
I'm just really excited to gank/grief people who signed up with my code, either before or after being given some kind of reward for them spending money, potentially unbeknownst to them. It's gonna be great, you guys

A couple forums I frequented seemed to have a very negative opinion of Linkrealms purely from people spamming about it for keys.
This reward system isn't exactly the same, given, but I can potentially see people being spammy about it in the same fashion.

Many companies use this method as a way of promotion however some individuals tend to abuse it by spamming forums and other communities, this is common with any game that offers something similar. Also, newer titles that are not known or under the radar seem to get spammed more because people feel that since it is unknown more people will use their link rather than finding the website itself.
I feel this is a good method however when it comes to players spamming their link that isn't something that can be controlled by the developers and I would hope that they wouldn't receive negative feedback based on those players actions.

@Tempest Actually, developers could well take action if they get reports of spamming. It isn't hard to ask for some screencaps, and look into it as part of a P.R. or C.M. job. Most won't, because it hasn't had enough demand from people to mitigate the tactic... most people who detest it simply avoid games because of the spam.
After all, most people will assume that if spam is allowed like that, then it will be all over in game too.

A couple forums I frequented seemed to have a very negative opinion of Linkrealms purely from people spamming about it for keysInteresting - I wasn't really aware of this, and it surprises me since players had to let us know of the links to the blog / forum posts where they talked about Linkrealms, and we would only reward non-spammy ones.
