Ingame Arenas In Example Boxing
-
So I was watching some movie about boxing today and thought "There would be a huge business for gambling and interesting Mechanics for Human and Demons alike". Give me some thoughts!
-
our arena's are call worlds. generally, developers don't want to add 'gambling' into their game because of legal issues.
-
@jetah I think the real problem occur only when you use real money. Using in game currecy to bet on the winner will not break any rules (I think)
-
so i buy a subscription type item from the developers (eve online, wow, rift and others have these) then trade that item for in game currency to gamble. the 3rd party casino in Eve Online was removed while adding "you may not use, transfer or assign any game assets for games of chance operated by third parties" to the EULA source. Problem with a video game is you can't stop underage gambling. It also has a chance to cause RMT from gambled earnings back into cash via 3rd party.

Although thats true, they have stated that their cash shop will only have cosmetics, no premium in game items. So there wouldnt be that problem as the only money someone could gamble would be that which they have gathered in game. The issue I see is how the mechanic would work and if it can be exploited. For e.g. I decide to 'lose' so that someone gains. That kind of thing.

You are creating things not developed! It's a B2P not a P2P.
-
@finland Regardless, such a mechanic (even with fake money) would lead to controversy, that no game needs, especially now that lootboxes are considered gambling by many legislators.
-
@waynestonchurchill the gambling controversy aside, as far as I know there will be no instanced pvp.
-
@phaethonas if the "fake money" can't be bought I don't see problems. Loot box can be bought with real money in many games or with a shoppable currency. Kinda different from burning gold (dunno the name of the fractured currency) tha you can only gather by playing.

Well that's rigth but I hope to see at least arena (2v2, 3v3, 5v5, 10v10). Also dreaming on instanced pvp like 15v15, 20v20, 60v60.
-
Really Interesting discussion we have here. But I never known anything to bring people together than a little staged fighting. I had never thought of legal problems

and PoE also has cosmetic only items but also has account services, bank tabs, etc. They could offer an optional subscription as well as cosmetic items. I'm saying they didn't say 'no subscription item aka plex, wow token, etc. fake money can be purchased from 3rd party, you wanted to buy gold directly from the developers. and I hope they don't have instanced pvp at all. but maybe that's a different topic.
@WaynestonChurchill yeah, legal is on top of everything before the developers even do their first bit of code (indie development aside).
-
As long as no real cash is involved whatsoever it should be fine
-
Would only work if no real cash is involved, but people could perhaps buy cosmetics and sell them on the auction house or even worse. Opens the doors for gold sellers where people can buy in game currency for real money from.
Perhaps a complete different system, where there is a weekly leaderboard with who had the most correct guesses of winners and at the end of the week the top X amount of people will get a trophy of some sort to put in their home.

Yeah but none said that they will implement that.

They've neither confirmed nor denied it. They'll have to have some great looking cosmetics to keep them sustained.
-
@evolgrinz I do see that as a working system

Yeah something like Hero skins for moba and some special mounts/pets

You can't see the problem, that doesn't mean there isn't a problem.
A problem is that even with fake money it promotes a certain behavior. That along side the fact that there is talk about outright banning lootboxes creates another problem; Bad PR

lol, once more you want to change core features of the game! Hilarious!!
