Yes. They wipe between every test. and will do so as well right before the release. Sometimes they use charmin, some times they just use leaves. but they always wipe

As stated, the Spring alpha is the Winter Alpha and will be based solely on Syndesia and testing PvP warfare between cities and the criminal mechanics.

In the Live Q&A that Jacopo had on Twitch.TV he stated that Arboreus (the Beastman and Pure PvE planet) will be the next big thing they tackle and will be out either as the last Alpha test or at the start of the Beta testing. Tartoros (the Demon and Pure PvP planet) will be handled sometime during beta after Arboreus.

It all comes down to money (and for AAA's...greed). This is the reason why almost all the games coming out now days have paid "early access". The times of old that you speak of, are no more. Will they ever come back? maybe.. though doubtful they will comes back as they were originally. More than likely they will come back in some form of hybrid fashion.

Again, all we can do is to become "testers" of the games we like and do our best to make sure that it comes out with as little "exploitations" and "bugs" as possible. The business model will not be changing anytime time soon, its a part of the official software developing cycle now.
