RE: Feature Spotlight #2 - Universe, Planets and Travels
Awesome update, thanks guys! Lots of truly interesting ideas and concepts
Some questions :
-
Time cycles: are these the actual exact time cycles (i.e. exactly 2 hours IRL for 1 day IG) or is that approximately so? If so, have you considered non-even numbers so that players always playing at the same time every day don't always see the same daylight pattern? If so, why not?
-
If I understood correctly : 1) every planet has the same day length, 2) two of them orbit each other, 3) eclipse on those two may last several IG days. I might be wrong but, intuitively, it doesn't seem cosmologicaly possible for all 3 statements to be true. Are your cosmological mechanics actual (i.e. fully implemented in SpatialOS) or are they solely for narrative/background/gameplay reasons?

Any chance we can get a larger versions of those concept arts for desktop wallpaper purposes??

Prometheus said the august wont be full with informations cause the holidays
But august is nearly over my friends..and the updates are coming, worry not!
@Mata this autumn is indicatively the right time indeed, although it could be delayed a lot (to mid 2018 even) if Dynamight receives other funding in the meantime.
Another approach some developers have been using to raise funds is to secure a round of funding through KS before going to more traditional funding sources, effectively using the KS money as seed. An example of that is Chronicles of Elyria, by Soulbound Studios.
I'm sure you've considered that avenue. Curious to know why you did not choose it.

@holyavengerone I generally inform the user(s) involved through PM why a thread got locked. In the case of the bumped threads in the welcome section, I contacted the person who bumped them. I generally don't add a post because it tends to lead to more arguments when other users disagree. In the case of necro'd posts, adding such post would also bump them again.
Why do we lock them? Because they're old and we don't want newer threads to be pushed to the bottom by old threads. The welcome section is very active, there are new introductions almost every day and it will get even busier once we start seeing a bigger influx of new users. Also, most of the users who introduced themselves in those locked threads haven't been active on the forum ever since. Most people just make an introduction thread for their Foundation points and that's it.
But the threads I linked were just like 8 days without a post? That's necro?
Also, since they're already at the top, if you just add a post saying why you lock them, that doesn't bump them too much. Heck, you can even lock a bunch and then make 1 post in the last one. Otherwise people don't get why you lock the post, so you don't help to curb the behavior, and you might come across as repressive.
Just trying to give you a few tips/tricks/things to think of here, in terms of forum management. I've done that a bunch in previous lives
The original plan was to release the rules regarding necroing before enforcing them. The reason why I decided to deviate from that plan was because of a few really bad necros, and because some people on the forum wanted to see something done about them.
What is and isn't a necro depends on the thread. For introduction threads, the cut-off is pretty short because we simply want to keep it clean for newer introductions. Right now the forum isn't very active yet, but that will change in the future and then we're going to see a lot more introductions. When it comes to making rules, we obviously look at the future and not the current situation. This is why I am already moderating according to future standards. Right now it might look a bit overzealous, but in the future it certainly won't.
Well 7 or 8 days between posts could be the timeframe between two visits on the forums for someone. That was way too short, I hope you guys can reconsider it.
I understand the rules aren't released yet but if you don't tell people when and why you moderate something people simply won't know because they won't see it, most of the time. Right there it's losing half of it's effectiveness, just on that basis.
I hope you guys are open to making some adjustments.

Woah, that little thing did generate a lot of comments, relatively, lol!

IIRC Fractured should enter Kickstarter
I don't believe they've mentioned any timeline for the KS. IIRC, @Prometheus explicitly said recently that there was no timeline for it.

@holya I had missed that, nice option, thanks! And I saw what you did there, loll!
Still feeling insecure about that??

RE: Any tabletop gamers?
For me, there's a big difference between different games category under that larger "tabletop" umbrella: classic card games, board games, pen & paper RPGs and collectible cards games. Within those categories, what I consider my all-time favorites:
- Classical card game : 500
- Board game : Carcassonne
- Pen & paper RPG : D&D
- Collective cards game : MTG

RE: Locked posts
If I may suggest, always add a comment to a locked thread so that the owner/poster understands a) that the thread was locked (i.e. get a notification if they follow the thread); b) why the thread was locked, so they don't do it again.
Also, looking at some of the threads locked in the "Welcome to Fractured" sub-forums, I'm not sure I understand why they were locked. None of these fit the definition that is usually understood for necro posting, and were really just nice posts saying hi:
https://forum.fracturedmmo.com/topic/345/howdy-guys/11
https://forum.fracturedmmo.com/topic/324/hi-there/28
https://forum.fracturedmmo.com/topic/321/helloI understand what you're trying to do, and that's commendable, but I'd be careful not to alienate prospective players / community members at this point. Erring on the loose side is probably a safer approach in that regards, especially before the aforementioned forum rules are announced.
Just my 2 cents

RE: Curious
Not a huge fan of the artificial post word count restriction. I'd rather have a way to easily filter out unwanted forum sections instead.

I have to agree with Holya on most of these points. I literally log into the forums every day, see if anything new and interesting has popped up, and if not, open a hello thread and post a 2 worded response.
I don't know what the solution is though, at least most of the spam is in a regulated area, and not in news or other helpful topics.
Personally, I'd rather login daily and notice a bunch 2-words posts/threads confined to 1 single and (rather) well circumspect category / sub-forum, as opposed to logging on and seeing a whole bunch of nothing, or very few posts at all.
I'd also rather have those than a bunch of flames/trolls/antics. They, at least, represent a sign, an opportunity to engage and open, discuss. That's always one of the key elements you want to have to kick off a community. It's great that people have a sub-forum to just do that basic thing!
Maybe something that would help: having an easy link somewhere to pre-made filter excluding "Welcome..." forum, like: https://forum.fracturedmmo.com/search?term=&in=titlesposts&categories[]=all&categories[]=watched&categories[]=1&categories[]=2&categories[]=4&categories[]=3&categories[]=8&categories[]=9&categories[]=10&categories[]=11&categories[]=12&categories[]=13&categories[]=14&categories[]=6&sortBy=relevance&sortDirection=&showAs=posts

Given the above answer, my understanding is that there won't ever be a fee for additional game content beyond the initial purchase. No expansions, no DLCs, no item shop. Am I reading that right?
@Vengu there will be an item store selling cosmetic enhancements (skins for your character, equipment, pets, etc) - that is pretty much sure. No expansions, DLCs and other forms of content restriction.
Wooooah, I had somehow missed that excellent reply. Thanks Prom
Much excellent, very 1.

RE: Curious
Any chance you guys would want me to write you a little solution to auto-lock threads older than "x" on your forums?
or maybe that feature, or a module doing it, is out there already? https://meta.discourse.org/t/about-the-plugin-category/12648

RE: Who are you gonna be ?
They all look interesting, but really I can't decide at this point. I'll need a lot more details on the mechanics -- especially the part managing the interactions between those 3 races -- before I do.
But. The Demon ones look pretty interesting, I must say!!
Sidenote: wouldn't it be cool if we could select a tag our profile to a given race/sub-race!

RE: Expansions and future content
I really hope that they limit to the utmost minimum the kind of "design experience", reserving that to top-tier rewards/packages only and/or in a limited way (name this, choose the color of that, etc.). I think they're time-consuming and costly for the developer when done too extensively/in detail.
