    • RE: Looting? Pickpocketing? Or Lock picking & Burglary

Progression is still progression, regardless of what type it is, older character will always be more versatile / efficient than fresh character.

There isn't any sense in claiming otherwise. ๐Ÿ™‚

The point of horizontal progression, though, is that power gap between old character and fresh character will not be as large as it would be in vertically progressed game.

No levels, equal base character stats, and limited skill slots in skill bar, will still give a full fresh character, chance against old character, because playing skill will play a significant role here.

In vertically progressed MMO, fresh character would not even have a chance regardless of playing skill.

Of course, we are talking about fresh characters here, not fresh players. Fresh players will obviously still have much to learn, so from that fact alone, they will be behind old players, that already learned many tricks.

However, if old, experienced player, creates a fresh alt, he may very well beat many other players (that are using progressed avatars) with his own freshly made alt, purely through his playing skills, and experience.

The above would not be possible in vertically progressed MMO.

I'm not quite sure where those portal locations will be (there might have been info that i missed, or no info yet).

Outgoing portal locations might be chosen at random, so those spots can't be camped, awaiting for someone open up the portal on another side and come through with goods. so a random "exit" spots would make sense.

There from those "portal exit spots" to the town where you are going is still going to be some travel time, where you actually risk your goods. Because I'm quite sure portal will not lead you directly to town, because that also wouldn't make sense. ๐Ÿ™‚

There needs to be some travelling risk, when going to another planet.

    • RE: PvE Planet with PvP

I guess we can agree on that travelling to other planets will be a challenge. ๐Ÿ™‚

Which is a good thing, I like that.

Players will be incentivized to organize accordingly and venture prepared. Your choices will matter. Strategies will matter.
      This should end up great.

@FibS said in Why we need attribute respec options.:

I stand by my previous idea that Knowledge Points should be used to reallocate stats.

Specifically, you can refund stats at a rate of 1000 KP per each point you get for lowering the stat.

      Hard no here.

That would start making VIP a pay 2 win.

More knowledge points earned because of VIP = more extensive respecs = more adaptive gameplay as direct consequence of paying money.

Sorry folks im personaly against this one in this case.

When a lot more content gets implemented tothe game, many things that perhaps seem less attractive now will become more attractive later on.

Perhaps you will use bread to feed your chickens, then they will lay a golden egg that you will trade for princesses hand in marriage.

      Just a crude example. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Gathering mats for Shrooffie แต€แดน and delivering them to particular tavern.
Fighting off furry (and other) thieves trying to steal the said mats.
Dancing on tables in particular tavern for tips.

Occasionally if I'm out of coffee, due to crisis, go on murdering rampage to random villages and take whatever I can.

    • RE: Bartle's Taxonomy and this game.

I'd say I'm a combo between socializer and explorer.

I do enjoy PvP, but for the "social aspect", having fun with bunch of friends, having laughs while PvP-ing, promoting your clan name, etc. So PvP for me isn't about killing, killing for itself has no purpose. There has to be some agenda behind it, if nothing else, "social community fun".

I do enjoy to achieve something, but again, I do not care about achievements that I do "just for myself", its again for "social aspect", for bragging rights, etc.

So socializing explorer fits me, even if I engage in PvP and achievements, but those are because of social aspect.

    • RE: How do you think the Economy will actually function?

One would expect that local resources will be low in price, and resources brought in from other planets will be expensive, so people think they will get rich by travelling, gathering abroad, and bringing reources back to own planet for sale. But...

In reality, there will be so many players that will do same thing, they will undercut each other, and prices of non local resources will drop, so they will end up being just slightly more expensive than local ones, and will be nothing that will get you rich.

The only way to get rich will be by territory control, having a strong clan, imposing your own rules in zones you control, collecting taxes, going on military offense and robbing enemy clans of their goods, and if sucessful, your clan can get wealthy, and so can you.

The only way explorers and gatheres can get wealthy is by forming own strong clan, trying to control prices, by attacking competition phyiscally and politically. With military support from allies, that help them in said thing.

Noone will get rich solo. So if that is your dream, forget about it. You will need a support of a strong clan / alliance, or you are getting nowhere. Well... at least not to some extreme, you can have own house, some gold, and farm... to really get rich, you will need to be a part of strong organization. And not only low member, but someone with a "position" inside it.

    • RE: Skill Ideas

Some attributes will let you have more pets following you in the same time.

Perhaps if you minmax in that direction, you are able to use the skill that temporarily shapeshifts you into some animal (from pet collection).

Imagine seeing 3-4 wolves attack you and you can't say which one is player. ๐Ÿ™‚

Maybe you will be able to detect that, but only if you know a particular detect magic skill, have it in your deck at that moment and cast it.

    • RE: Support/Healer type builds

It would be strange if healers wouldnt be needed.

I guess design will be that for solo content players will be able to create efficient builds so healing isn't mandatory, but for harder group content there is no doubt, you will need to be super skilled and organized as a team to maaybe pull something off without a healer.

    • RE: Bummer for me: "Hello Governor! A few city-claiming tips for you..."

Cities will provide safety from thieves and murderers, unlike "a place of their own" that players may build in the wilderness.

Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages of course. Advantages of living in a city are safety from attacks and theft, proximity of other people with various professions that you may not have, proximity to marketplace, richer social life,... and you may still venture on a journey to the wilderness when you want to harvest own resources, or collect knowledge.

Advantages of living in the wilderness are proximity to resource spots for harvesting, shorter travel times from harvesting spots back to your home where you can deposit them or convert them to other materials using your workbenches, the thrill of living in a wilderness itself, not depending on city politics that may ask the taxation of you, or evict you from your home.

There will be many people roaming around, so cities will never be empty. On the contrary, cities will be hotspots for market and services that people will offer.

Various people will chose various living options, but bare in mind, that even if you chose living in wilderness, you still do not have to live alone. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • RE: Dexterity giving speed bonus might be an issue

@Tuoni if you put points in speed, then you will lack points somewhere else. So you are fast, but if a melee with STR CON, catches you using movement spells, you will easily eat the bullet. ๐Ÿ™‚

You can't gank someone if you are fast, and he is strong, he will just turn around and kill you.

Assuming 1 vs 1 here, and equal playing skills.

If you are 2 (or more) vs 1, then no ammount of points matter where they are, several players will always beat 1, no matter how you turn it. There is no escape.

Point is if you are kiting spec (hunter) then speed is beneficial, but if you are (warrior) then its better to minmax combat, and use movement spells, to catch up to your target, and slows to prevent him from escaping.

      1. Add max dex so all your other stats suffer
      2. Slowly add leftover stats to int
      3. As your int increases and you become smarter, slowly remove points from dex
      4. End up making a mage

Hmmm i haven't thought about mounts here. If they are a spell that you can cast anywhere even after you die then movement is non issue ye.

Hmmm I'm also curious if DEX will affect your mounted movement speed as well. Also the cart speed.
