I know what @Galtakie is pointing out, he is wishing way more optical stuff. But as @Xzait, it is already possible to place storages outside, all what is missing is a different look of things. That we just have limited looks of stuff is caused on the state of the game. It is just an Alpha and we just have basic stuff, not even decorations. But even decorations are already in game, but just not accessible for player yet. When all core mechanics are implemented and the Devs find time to polish the game, i am quite sure, we will get way more options to make our houses and towns cozy and looking nice. In town, house parcels can go different than 4x4, however, the 5x5 parcel wasn't working last I checked, even though Valhalla Atrium unlocked it. In previous tests, house plots could go as big as 6x6 in the Wilderness (which is what was needed to put a 5x5 patio structure up, as the patio seems to overlap its border on that blueprint. I assume the plan is to have different sized plots once they get the testing more in line with their expectations. Easier to test with a stricter control group.

@yneternum Yes. After more testing I noticed that on the Woodcutting station you access the storage thru a tab on the crafting menu. This is the only crafting station that uses this UI interaction pattern. All the other storage is accessed thru the chest icon.
