How big is the game realm?
-
I was wondering, just how big is/ could be the total area of all of the in-game worlds combined?
-
@cjm7603
The area of the world will increase proportionally with the updatesSpatialOS gave us the server architecture to create an open world of virtually unlimited scale. That alone is simply amazing, but it solved only half of the problem – we had to figure out ourselves the puzzle of client-side world building. It wasn’t much of a technical issue there, but rather one of game design: how can a small company without an army of level designers pull off such a gargantuan task?
The answer, we knew, was procedural world generation followed by human polishing.
Over the last couple months, we have defined, furiously thrown away and re-defined the world building tools and pipeline in a seemingly endless loop of never-satisfying iterations… until we made it!
Today, I can gladly announce we’re able to quickly generate large portions of maps which perfectly fit the mechanics of an MMO with isometric camera and ARPG combat. Exciting maps, with the detail and variety you’d expect from a AAA production (but made by an indie team). That’s cool, isn’t it?
-
we don't know as it wasn't mentioned.
@Prometheus would have to tell us the total land mass size of each planet.
-
If it's procedurally generated, I wonder if they'll limit it or if they'll let players form up an expedition and travel for thousands of miles in the same direction to see what they can find.
-
@mereni That's not right, the map will not be generated procedurally. It will be static. Font here: https://forum.fracturedmmo.com/topic/828/world-size-changing-world/5
-
@lango Both those posts say the map will be procedurally generated. But that second one does answer my question. They'll limit it.
-
@lango
the initial planets will be generated but will remain static after that.@Mereni
planets will be procedurally generated then will remain static. We'll have Asteroids as procedurally generated content. DS hasn't explained it well so that's about all we know.
It was mentioned that the planets will be just regular square/rectangle maps and not real spheres.

@cjm7603 I really hope something really big like most common MMORPG. I hope I will not be disappointed as on Crowfall
We know only that Arboreus will be bigger than Syndesia. Syndesia will be bigger than tartaros.
-
Crowfall is in pre-alpha and the test worlds are small because the population is small.
the current map is ~60 cells [a cell is 256 m x 256 m]
the maximum size of an eternal kingdom will be 400 cells [5.1km x 5.1km]
the current map is only 15% the size of an eternal kingdom
a campaign world will consist of MULTIPLE 400 cell maps stitched together seamlessly with no loading screensLike i said, it's small because there are limited amount of people.

The planet sizes are different but the playable areas should be similar size.
-
@target nope. playable size should be different like said before.

@finland https://fracturedmmo.com/feature-spotlight-2-universe-planets-travels/
Arboreus is the largest planet of the Elysium Ring, with a surface twice as wide as that of Syndesia – although the area of continents above sea level is roughly equivalent to that of the other planets.
Tartaros is the smallest of all the planets of the Elysium Ring. Notwithstanding its size, its walkable surface is similar in area to the one of Arboreus and Syndesia,
It doesn't explicitly say playable area but it seems heavily implied.
