Monopoly

Given that the world's economy is controlled by the players, are there any measure in place that will prevent high level players from controlling certain item markets?
-
@icoshi How? It's obvious that the merchant guilds on each planet will be able to manage the economy, as they will be the key auctions
-
@icoshi there will be no high lvl players in this game, since the game has no lvl's.
And as long as resources are spread around the planet, so no one resource is in one are, so the area can be "locked" by players, I don't see it happen.
-
what would the point of that be? if this is a sandbox what would be the point of the devs policing the community and safeguarding players? having certain players and guilds monopolizing items lead to conflict and lead to player driven content as players vie for the control of those items...

How would you know on every planet for iron will be different prices, and the members of trade guilds will establish the balance, thus any overestimate of the prices is not provided. If a single player wants to profit, he will have to put the goods below the average on the planet, but it will be different in that, that the trade guilds will be much more reserves of resources.
-
@icoshi I really hope to not see a monoply like AO top guilds.
-
There is only one way for monopoly to happen.
If there will be some unique resource that exists only in restricted part of Arboreus. That would allow players that can roam around there have monopoly over all others that can't.
We don't know yet precisely if there will be such resource or no. We are only assuming that all Arboreus resources will be spread around evenly on restricted and non restricted part. However, that may not show to be the case.
-
@icoshi I actually haven't thought of that... Good question. It would be hard to balance it if the devs want to keep player freedom but a merchant guild gains a monopoly

Yeah I hope every resource/mob on Tartaros is spread over the whole planet. AO had bad concept with their black dungeons.
-
@benseine they are reworking that with the next patch but it's kinda late.
-
It all balances out. If some "high lvl players" try to increase the price of an item, then people see they can make more profit on that and more people will start to make that item or gather those materials. So more and more will be added to the market and the price will start to drop.

@gothix Im not quite sure this is the only way. Imagine this situation:
Some high power players wants to monopolyze a certain type of manufactur, lets supose axes (Just an example). Then they start purchasing Iron in high values so everyone wants to sell them. Then, with no other competitor buying in that prices, they can manage to produce axes at the cost they want.
I mean, for sure this is not going to happen with axes an iron, but if there is some not-common resource that is used to produce just a little amount of items I think this is posible.

and if they're on the pvp planet then they're killed and robbed.
