You will be able to tame creatures, probably such as wolves and spiders. Although it's not been developed yet. It will probably come later in the year closer to official release.

Creature tamers will need to have a descent amount of charisma though, when taming is implemented.

I don't really think you can call any race "the best race". It all boils down to what you want as a player. No point picking Chadra (+3 dex and +1 cha with i believe -2 int?) if you are only going to have 6-12 dex anyway. You still can if you want to be a cat though, with no issues, unless u want more than 16 int.
Classes with stat changes have max stat total = 18 + bonus. (so a Chadra can start with 21 dex, instead of 18). If the bonus is positive, it will cost fewer points to increase the stat. If the bonus is negative (like int in this case), it will cost you more points to increase the stat.
So again, "best" is all to do with what type of build you plan to use for the majority of the game. I believe humans don't have any stat bonuses, however, they have more points to spend on stats, to balance that
