Rotatable Camera?

Yeah I didn’t play that one.

@fibs
immerse /ɪˈməːs/ "involve oneself deeply in a particular activity."
looking for the secret passages and other things you mentioned becomes the easiest thing you can do without locked camera. walking around and actually looking around helps you involve yourself deeply in playing the game rather than just flinging your camera around the map.@jetah said in Rotatable Camera?:
Problem is people who are moving south don't have the fov that those moving north have, thus giving an advantage to the southerners moving north. with a rotating camera, those moving south can see just as much as those moving north.
i see that would be a big problem on pve but actually might be better for pvp where it helps with the strategizing, the roads they take to travel etc.
-
it depends on how the secret passage is hidden. if the wall highlights red and it's easily noticeable then yeah a rotating camera won't help. but if the passage looks just like the rest of the area then having a rotating camera could be nice.
I had never played an isometric game with it and thought it was neat when I did try it. I didn't realize there was a game that old with it already.
I think more about pvp with regard to Fractured than pve. So my suggestions will be biased toward that. If the devs wanted to they could lock the camera for certain activities but leave it unlocked for outdoor pvp.

Just wondering if we'll have the ability to rotate the camera? I found an Alpha (steam early access) game that is isometric but also allows the user to rotate the camera around the player and it's awesome! First time I've experienced it.
Can you post a gameplay video of that game here?
-
@finland I thought was no WASD movement, all clicking?
-
yeah let me load up obs.
-
-
@GenieHakeem Fractured? Yeah is click to move (no WASD). I hate isometric camera + WASD (like battlerite).
-
i posted a link to a small twitch stream moving the camera in Wolcen.
-
@jetah nice vide But I think I'll suffer motion sickness

it's different when you control the camera vs watching it. and i'm using A/D to move it instead of the middle mouse button. I don't have problem when I'm playing the game but I haven't put much time into it.
-
@jetah Yeah it's abit different from VR but I had some throubles watching the video. I should try it to say something. Anyway it would not be a problem if I don't turn the camera
-
@finland did you have a problem moving the camera in WoW?
-
@jetah is not the same. in wow you rotate the char around to turn the camera. in that game you turn the camera around the char. the fulcrum is different on wow is fized on the char. in that game it's 360° around the char, with the char in the middle

both games the camera is fixed on the character. different being isometric doesn't have z axis changes.
-
@jetah In wow is fixed behind the char not turning around
-
you can hold left mouse to move the camera around the character while the character travels in any direction. the LMB won't change the direction the character travels in. I can look directly at the face of the character while they're moving. it's difficult to move that way but it's possible.

In Salem The Game we got more options (well more with the customer client aswell) to choose favorite camera setting.
Usually it is a click to run, but you can move with WASD too, but that made the riding complicated and the PVP too, so click to walk was the better option.
Also we can choose between following cam in different angles and free mode. But at all modes its still possible to move the camera around with middle mouse.
To move the camera is mostly used to get better overview at building and harvesting.
However, different people have different playstyles or even the abilitiy to use a mouse or keyboard is different, so i think it is good if the player are able to choose their best fit of camera setting.
Per example, i know someone who even play standards MMORPGs just with a Notebookkeyboard, i mean really without a mouse, because she can just play from her bed.
It should be possible to give this kind of people the abilitiy to play a click to walk game too.

Thx, seems loke a really nice addition to the game if you could rotate the camera

Having it as an option is always awesome. Doesnt mean people have to use it but its there for those that want to.
