How I imagine starting on Tartaros would be...

browsing imgur and saw this. THIS is how I imagine starting on Tartaros will be like!!!!!
-
That doesn't sound very appealing.
-
It is going to depend on the player distribution. If there's barely any other player in your vicinity, I'd argue that playstyle could be rather similar-ish to the other races.
-
I would like to see well thought tutorial for launch. First impression for players is something that should be done right and informative way. It should teach new players the basics without making it too heavy. Maybe planets could have partly own tutorials where one part focus more on starting planet things. Albion online is a good example where tutorial for launch was too simplified and I guess biggest reason for this was lack of time and rush to get all done before d-day. Now almost two years after launch they have done new and more interesting tutorial..

@Tuoni
tartaros is a harsh world. dont expect your hand to be held.yes i do expect something to guide the player but being safe should only be in the small hatchery that's the starting area. outside that small area it should be pretty wild and unfiltered.
-
I do not expect to see any hand holding, but creating an informative tutorial is as important for any new player regardless of the race, or how casual or hardcore you are.

@Meiki
with the people now they'd have to make youtube videos. then have them somehow play in game.@Tuoni
developers are making manuals any more so they dumb it down enough.
-
@Meiki I guess that would be quite shortcut way to do that tutorial. If tutorial won't be a thing in Fractured maybe then at least something like that.
Tutorial as I see it is to help new players with game mechanics and introducing the world. This can be done via quest chains which cover different aspects of game. Those shows you how to gather, refine resources and craft first gear pieces. That teaches player the knowledge system, talent tree, combat and shows how to unlock abilities. So tutorial should cover all the basics so players does not need to try figure out everything by themselfs. And if tutorial is 100% optional and can be skipped if wanted, then no ones butt will hurt if they don't want to do that.

Starting safe zone shouldn't be connected via global chat channel with rest of the continent pls. Spam bots shouldn't be safe.
-
@Gothix Or does this game need global chat at all? I personally hope that we will see only local chats.
-
@Tuoni
i can see planet global but it would be neat for a while to have just local chat. however with discord so easy to create a server someone would create a general chat for the game.
-
@Jetah Yeah I guess you could do discord channel for that, but it is luckily not that bad when compared to ingame option of global chat. Local chats works really well and are imo the best option in sandbox game with local economies. What is the size of local chat is another thing. Continent? Or are continents even divided in regions? Maybe depends size of continents..

Actually, a discord INTEGRATION in Fractured would be neat. It's not that much work/overhead and can actually save the developers time. Moderating that can be rather easy, since the community (or some of it's members) can write own (discord)bots to prevent spamming
-
@Logain Hold your horses. Sandbox games does not need global chats and those more like takes sand out of the box. If ingame local chats are implemented (why would not) those are surely enough.

Which could be handled with Discord as well. Just with additional benefits and ease of implementation.

And what are excatly the benefits? I see only problems..
What is the point leave chat to handle by outsiders? Not every player is using discord and especially all the time. Chat needs to be ingame, where you can get information in realtime on the same screen you are using for playing. Not something running background or need to use second screen/device.
-
On top of that. In game chats are used to interact with the game. You can use it as command line and you can link there in game stuff which can be used as shortcuts. So the game and chat are connected and linked to each other from very different ways. I am also positive, that DS wants to keep all chat logs and control of the chat by themselfs. They want players to follow their chatting rules and not let players to decide what is right and wrong. I am pretty sure they want to keep in game localization and control of local economies in their hands and give that power to people outside of the game. I am pretty sure I forgot something relevant, but maybe someone will cover me..
So @Logain, all this can be done easily via player driven Discord channel and on top of that with additional benefits?

(...)player driven Discord channel(...)
There has been a misunderstanding, I am sorry if I didn't manage to express myself properly. I did not suggest player driven Discord channels, running in separate windows (all though that is going to happen as well, as you can not influence it). What I mentioned was the possibility to include Discord in a game. Which yes, does come with all the features you described as necessary with plenty of additional benefits.
-
@Logain hmmmm.. because you answered to Jetah's post where he was talking about someone creating a Discord channel, I presumed you are talking about same thing. Okay, because this was misunderstanding, we can forget that then. It seams you know more about this integration, so could you tell us a lil bit more about it? I am interested of this:
Does any other MMO game use Discord full integration? Succesfully? Full support/link between game?
