    • First impression of Alpha1 -T1 with screen shots

For those that can't play yet and have not the time to watch a stream here little report about what can do and what not so far in the game. If you have question or just want to see a more detailed screen shot, raise your voice. I will try to answer.

      Character creation

After the login you get to the character screen. Here you can choose an existing char or create a new one.
      alt text

When creating a new char you can only play humans so far. The choices you can make are quite limited, but please note you can change the colour of your underwear. Haven't seen that in any other game yet.
      alt text

On the next screen you set your name and stats for your char which do not change as long as the char exists. You can reduce the stats to 6 (gain points for other stats) or raise them till 18. The higher the lvl the higher the points needed.
      alt text

      Gameplay
Now you can finally play. You start naked in the world. You need raw materials to craft yourself the first equipment, fibers, branches, flints or small stones (depending on your weapon). You just pick up stones and harvest branches from the trees. No need to craft a tool yet. You collect fiber from one specific plant. alt text

To craft you don't need anything special, just open the crafting window and select what you want to craft.
      alt text

After you finished the crafting and equiped your stuff you're ready to explore.
      alt text

To claim land and build a house you have to find a ruin. alt text

After you claimed the land you can place your blueprint of the house on the lot and start building it. You will start with the base of stone which needs 24 stone blocks.
      alt text

You place the needed material in the blue spots and then you craft them.
      alt text

Next step are the walls which takes a bit over 60 wood logs. Since it is much work, try to work together. Everyone can help.
      alt text

Next time I hope to show more of combat and skills, but at the moment there is not much to show. Till Alpha1-T2

I would make a centipede with 8 segments. Each planet has its own version, like spiked one for tataros, scaled one for syndesia, furry one for beast planet. Could use poison. And the secret effect would be, when its health drop below 30% it splits up in its 8 segments which than attack you

    • RE: Roadmap To Alpha 1 - Test 2

My first thought was "That's all?". But looking closer it is only 2 months till june and what you guys planned is realistic. I'm to spoiled by other games that made big promies and always broke them. Give me time to get used to honest roadmaps.

Okay back in hype mode. I can't wait for the next test but as I know my bad luck it will fall in my holidays, when I can't play.

I have a few questions regarding the next test @Prometheus

      1. Will the test be only one week like this time or can we hope for more?
      2. You mentioned different house sizes, does that mean also different lot sizes?
      3. Will we be able to place decoration on top of each other, for example a table on a rug on the table another rug and than a bowl filled with apples?
      4. You want to allow us rotation of items. I'm aware that houses will only rotate 90 degrees, but about the other stuff? Will you allow free rotation or 5/10 degree rotation?
      5. Is there a plan to let us name chests so we know what we wanted to place in them?
      6. If we "Relinquish claim" what will happen with the stuff on it during the test? -what are the long term ideas?

      Good luck for the migration.

Until we didn't reached taming I don't need new goals. I'm just happy that we can fullfil those kickstarter goals. I'm more afraid of new goals because those will delay the development and can cause big trouble.
I'm not even sure which further goals could be asked for.

I would love to hear more about the lore, like basic knowledge and how much we can discover ingame, since we have no quest system.

Second would be more informations about player organisations. How will the party system work (restrictions regarding races, karma or something else)? Guildsystem - what have they planned for that? Town inhabitants?

Third would be about roleplay support. Will we get emotes like sit, drink, dance and sleep? Will we be able to get titles, change names trough marriage or even hide our names, give alias names? Will there be support for player made quests and stories, like chests that give one item per player as loot?

What really hypes me for farming is, that is on the surface and not some planting bed. It looks so natural. Nothing is more immersion breaking when you run around in a world seeing the NPCs can have their plants on the surface but you as a player not. Keep up the good work.

      @Znirf
Why are the eyes of the spider missing? Or are these white spots the eyes? And thanks god it is not a hairy spider. Nothing creeps me out more than standing in front of a manhigh spider with hairy legs and read eyes looking at you.

If you create a hero profile you have to choose a god, so the question is legal if you have to choose one in the final game? If you don't have to, than this should be shown also on the website.

    • Gamblelot - Every desire can be fulfilled

Ordinary. This is the first impression I have coming to this city today. The main road leads directly to the central market square with small stalls offering the goods of the surrounding farms. A handful of houses directly on the marketplace have 2 or 3 floors and their walls are covered polished stone and some ornaments. All the other builddings are not worth mentioning. Just like my hometown only a bit bigger. Every desire can be fulfilled is written on the town entrance booard. But this town can't be the promised land full of gambling, bloody fights and carnal sins.

If you want to have the best night of your live go to gamblelot. It is not cheap but worth it.
Just because of those words of my best friend I scrimpt the last year to get enough money for today. His last advice was to get a room in the tavern "pearl shoe" short after lunch time and take a nap till evening. The tavern looks run down but clean. The room I got is small but I paid a fortune for it. I lye down and close my eyes, cursing myself for believing my friend so easily. I will see what the night will bring, they will wake me when it is time.

A woman is leaning over me and gives a kiss on the cheek.
Wake up or you will miss all fun young man.
Half asleep I reach out for her face and touch her red lips. Her smile is warm and inviting. She leans her face in my hand and whispers:
The night is still young. Enjoy the town and come back to me later. I will wait for you.
Now I'm awake. She leaves the room and doesn't close the door fully. I hear the noise from the tavern. Joyful music mixed with clatter of cutlery. Downstairs I can't trust my eyes. Is that really the tavern I entered?
The room with the bar doubled. The plain wall on the right was lifted and opens the view to a stage with 3 females dancing on it. On the left behind lifted curtains I notice small alcove. The light from the chandelier dives the whole tavern in warm and cozy colours. After telling my roomnumber to the bartender I get a table in front of the stage with beer and a proper meal. But my eyes stick on the dancing female Udoadra. I have seen a beastman before but this was something like out of a dream.

    • RE: Funding

Since stretch goals are reached with the money spent on the pledges I don't think new stretch goal will gain more money.
Only a handful will upgrade their pledge or buy even a second account just to reach another stretch goal.
New players will also not come because we have a new stretch goal like capes or tattoos.

For the long term support of the game there are already subscriptions planned like VIP-status or the NPC-Carpenter. We will have a store where we can buy perhaps skins, blueprints for houses and decoration or seasonal stuff.

What we need now are new players that buy a pledge. Gladly we already have some great streamers that spread the word about the game. But I haven't found one mmo-magazine that published a review about the first alpha test so more player would get the urge to test it out.

    • RE: How long ago was Elysium destroyed?

This dicussion went far away from my original question. But I guess I hit a point worth discussing.
Fantasy doesn't mean it is free from logic and consequences. For fractured it was said, that steam punk belongs to humans and just them. So if I will find any steam punk on tataros, than it has to be done by humans. That is an inner logic that should not be destroyed. And only if a game follows it own inner rules it will leave a good impression on the player.
So back to my main question. Lorewise every inhabitant should know how long they live on their planet because it was a major event. Every creature wants to know where they are from so it can't be just a knowledge of a god. So we will just have to wait for more informations.

    • RE: Gamblelot - Every desire can be fulfilled

Hello, the story above should show the idea of the town I would love to bring to live.

The plan is to create a town on Syndesia open for everyone. On the surface a normal propper town, but when the night rise the town shows it true face full of gambling halls/casino, auction houses /blackmarkets where you can buy everything, taverns/arenas for fights, theaters for shows and what ever such a town should have.

RP would be nice but there is no need for it in general.

I don't own a pledge that comes with a town so at the moment the town can't be named and must be built from zero.
I'm searching here some players that would join me on creating this town as inhabitants and owners of taverns, casinos, farmers and so on.

      @Tuoni said in Economy Balance:

@Sindariya Well I can not decide when I die so it is kind of hard to think all before hand.. πŸ˜‰ Also if people can not store stuff outside of home and guild bank, it will make all activities far from home really annoying. You can basically play mostly in your own hoods.. That sounds kind of bad. I really need an answer from DS side. @Specter πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

Actually I wonder all the time. The devs tell of removing the "grind" out of the game but add many tedious sounding things into it. After all, each player has a different understand of 'grinding' Some like leveling and quesing a lot. The advancement of the RPG char is the core of such games. Renaming the actions to do so, does not change the system.

Having to carry stuff around, though weight and space matter, might annoy quickling.
Having to explore to get Fractured XP, named knowledge points sound fun, but if you encounter difficult climate conditions large distances away from any access to your belongings might annoy quickly.
Having to reequip your char x times a day because your robbed and or killed many times a day might annoy quickly.
Trying to reach virtually unreachable areas in the game to up you skill, only because you need Tartarus as a beast or Arboreus as a demon will not feel great either.

All this might quickly be viewed upon as grind. It is the risk vs. reward spiral which keep game like this interesting. Which is good. No game like this can work without features some people will name 'grind'

You have really valid points here. Grind can be defined few ways and players experience it differently. Fractured means by grind repeating same stuff over and over again, and I am really glad they have chosen this kind of approach for progression. However, I am a little bit concerned how much there will be pointless traveling especially if our storage possibilities are really limited. Some people can call that easily grind, to me, it is not, and I categorize it as walking simulator. However, it does not matter how people sees this concern, at the end the result is the same, time consuming and not fun activity.

I found this sentence in the second spotlight
You can earn some warehouse space to store your items in a village, but such space is not free – and even if you unlock it, what you deposit in the village stays in the village. As your character inventory on Fractured is quite limited, you’ll need wagons to move resources – which means animals to drag them, and a proper escort to see that your bounty doesn’t fall to unwanted hands. This is once more a wide topic though, which will be given further elaboration in future feature spotlights.

Perhaps we can unlock hidden spells/skills from the skill book or not a special theme but unlock the highest level.

Furthermore I want to see a special biome, not one from the planets. There should be also special animals that could have a stellar/aether/nether theme since they were so long in space and changed.

    • RE: Marketing as important part of early development

      @Tuoni
You always surprise me with your question and thoughts of the game. Keep it going.

I myself don't work in marketing and sales either. I suffer on the other end when our customers have trouble because it doesn't work as promised or I have to teach them how to do it right.

Marketing is a double edged sword. Done right it can give you more than you ever expected. Done wrong it can kill you.
Know your market, know your customer, know your product, know your goal. Those are the basics for every marketing strategy. If you have your strategy you need to have a good timing so all your effort is not for nothing.

      Know your market
The gaming market is big. The competion is high. Plenty of established games are already there, plenty of new games are in development and plenty of games are already down the road.
Nearly every game launches already half finsihed state at a market that expect final games and in my opinion it hurt the market extrem.

      Know your product
We know what Fractured wants to be and as you said we are not even close to it yet. Teh access to Fractured is at the moment behind a big paywall and really limited in time. That is nothing wrong in this state of development. The only thing we can sell is the idea at the moment and that will not bring in the mass.

      Know your customer
Every game needs player and player want to do what? Play.
Do we have something to play? No.
What will they do? Look for something to play and forget about us.
So why should they pay for something they can't use?

      Know your goal
Yes we need player, but do we really need them now? What we need now are supporter that will test, give feedback and build up the core of the game the community. We need to create an interest in the game and build up the trust, that the game will be what it is promised.

      Strategy
I think DS did already a good job. They set up all modern marketing channels along with the website. They get their news published on gaming websites. But I think needs to be a change in this strategy. From posting news just when they have time or something new to a regular shedule. If I didn't found this game just before alpha I wouldn't have bought and test it. I burnt my fingers to often on early access titles to really hype just because of an idea and no further infos and news.

I would love to see on a fix date every month a news. It could be a spotlight or just a comment on the state of the development. Are they still on shedule regarding A1 T2? What could they implement last month (see content pill)? What do they want to implement next month? At the end a reminder what is needed to play A1 T2 and the promise see you next month. Those news are taken by the gaming websites and are published, those will taken by the players and spread in the world. It only cost time and discipline but build up trust. We see they are on it and there is a progress. We see they can keep deadlines or see the reason why they have to postpone something. And we keep the mass outside informed regulary so they can't forget us.

I don't see the need for livestreams at the moment, that is something for Beta2 when we can really play 24-7. And yes there could be too much videos. Honestly when watching the ingame videos I thought, that is nothing for me. They walk, walk, walk, kill a bear, walk, walk, walk, kill 2 wolfs, walk, walk, walk, goblin camp. Finally something to see after 15min? Not good. If there is nothing really happening in the first 2min the most stop watching the video or jump forward in the video and perhaps miss the big thing.

Regarding your idea of a trailer, why should the devs do it? Let the players do it. They know why they play the game and what others will hook up. I witnessed once such a contest and was blown away what they were able to do. And those trailers are honest because they are done with actual game play.

@Jetah Yeah I would also love to see livestreams with devs. But I also know how much work it is. Since we have already experienced streamers, why don't they host a QA with the devs and take over all the preparations like taking questions and prepare a list, take care of the chat and catch up live questions, so the devs only need to be there and answer. That is a big help.
