Will people get reset for public realease?

I was wondering is people would get reset in public release/ with every new alpha test and such. If not, it's okay.

IIRC every test phase will end with a wipe, and at the very least, everyone will start fresh on launch.

i never understood this thinking. why would a developer allow progress from testing phases?
