    • MMO Industry at present

Fractured has popped up and given us all something to be excited about. I've noticed a real trend recently with smaller companies and industry veterans turning their attention to MMOs and deciding to fight the stagnation left behind by every game utilizing the same standard formulas. Not all of them are successful (Everquest NEXT, anyone?), but they fact that they're happening gives me hope.

With the recent success of Chronicles of Elyria and Ashes of Creation popping up on the tail of others like Crowfall, Albion Online, and Star Citizen, other games are making strides without the media coverage.

Games like Project Gorgon with it's interesting take on skill based gameplay, Pantheon with it's unapologetic focus on social gampeplay, and Legends of Aria (previously Shards Online) sit in their shadows.

It seems that no MMO ever achieves the full on "Dream", but as I look at a few of these recent entries, it seems like together they may create a better whole.

What games are you all following or interested in, as 2017 progresses? What trends in gameplay evolution are you most excited about?

    • RE: Open World PVP?

@prometheus said in Open World PVP?:

Alternatively, you can play as a human and go criminal - on Syndesia it will definitely be easier to target players who are less skill in PvP, but you'll have to deal with the law.

Demons definitely interest me - but I would be lying if I didn't admit the allure of dealing with the law on Syndesia - very curious to see just how fleshed out that system becomes and how well it's implemented!

    • PvP Zoning, thoughts?

Other threads have started discussions on Open PvP, and whether you prefer PvP or PvE, but I'd like to explore the concept of servers or areas designed for certain preferences.

      • Tartaros - Full PvP
      • Arboreus - Full PvE
      • Syndesia - A mix of the two

Demons interest me, so I may well play Tartaros - but I am by default going to be more at home on Syndesia.

I'm curious what % of the current foundation members fall into which categories - what are you most interested in, keeping in mind that while moving between zones will be possible, it will also apparently be limited. If you have to stick to just one of the three for an extended period of time, where are you at home?

    • RE: Are you a PVP or PVE player?

80% PvE, 20% PvP - but I'm totally fine if it's intermixed, rather than zoned.

    • RE: July Feature Spotlight: Cosmology & Races - List your questions!

Weather: Will weather play a role in the game, and will it's role be more than visual?

Orbit Cycle: Will day/night cycles play a role that has any meaningful impact on race?

      Thanks!

    • RE: subscription

I've never been averse to subscriptions, but not everybody is in the same boat when it comes to disposable income.

I second the hope that any kind of cash shop will be purely aesthetic. Not providing any kind of combat advantage is great, but it can also be frustrating when other advantages are provided - such as boosts that affect your interaction with the economy (crafting boosts, earning potential boosts, etc), or ease-of-life boosts like sprint speed and such, that still allow people to progress in some way more with cash. When that's the case, I'd prefer to revert to a subscription model.

Paying for clothing/skins/styles, etc, though? No problem. I usually spend some cash with companies that pull it off right, in that way, to show my appreciation and support of a game.

    • RE: Why will the control be based on a mouse?

I'm with Luccheno on this one.

Both sides make valid points here, but until you have a chance to see (and even try), I find it hard to lock into an anti-mouse stance with any solidarity. Plenty of games pull it off just fine.

I haven't played League of Legends in years due to toxicity in the community (at least back when I quit it), but I found many of those matches to be incredibly intense - equally if not more so, than the SMITE matches I play today. On the other hand, I don't feel near the intensity in DoTA 2 as I did in League of Legends shrug

For me I'm open to whatever movement the developers feel best, and will form my opinion when I can see it in action.

    • RE: Feature Spotlight #1: Three Races, Three Gameplays

Starting on different planets (and the aesthetics of them) is somewhat similar to starting in different zones in other games - however, I really like the idea of race determining skills that come easy, and skills that one has to work for to further solidify the differences between these races.

I also like that they're further elaborating on the "different starting zone" concepts by exploring different rules/values for the various cultures (such as their take on what constitutes a crime).

    • RE: Last MMO you played?

Right now I'm playing Project Gorgon. A lot.

Recently I've put time into Elder Scrolls Online, Black Desert Online, Albion Online, and just a touch of Final Fantasy XIV.

However, at least for the moment, Project Gorgon has taken my attention away from all of them.

This game, however... This game intrigues me.

I'm also keeping an eye on the news postings of Ashes of Creation, Chronicles of Elyria, and Pantheon.
