@Canterbury something I've noticed with the mmo news folks is that unless one of them personally falls in love with a game, or unless it's a monster AAA game, they don't report much about them. Sure they'll do little blurbs like massively and mmorpg does on fractured, but nothing more than basic info. Perhaps one of the best things I heard was from that massively article comparing this to swg. I see the comparisons, and those type of articles would be sure to draw in folks willing to spend some bling.

So far my hope is that they aren't just basic flavor changes with some impact. I want all of those things to have a substantial impact on play so that they really benefit some things and hinder others.

Free towns are where it's gonna be at if you aren't doing the guild thing. Haven't made my own mind up yet which I'm gonna shoot for.

@logain hadn't thought of that but makes complete sense. If they could I could also see the meta approach of many individuals from one group claiming stuff with the intention of one group controlling all the space they could. I guess that could be interesting in its own right.

I would say all else being equal numbers will almost always win. Although I don't put it past the ability of a small group of well organized players being able to take down a group substantially larger than theirs.

I like the idea that really gifted crazy can create highly specialized gear, and since those Crafters would be rare, the gear would be as well. I like that approach much better than some generic drop rate.

Yeah this game is intended to be more of a sandbox than the theme parks that mmos have mostly become. For many that may take a reorientation to the good days of MMOs, but the wonderful thing about the sandbox is that the point of playing is whatever you want it to be.

Absolutely. Not to mention I love seeing people adjust to what a sandbox can offer and realize what they've been missing. When enough of us see the light, the industry will move away from those theme park rail mmos that they've been pumping out.

I was meaning more the "build a buff" system with entertainers, which was unique. You can find the patent here https://patents.google.com/patent/US8764554 and I believe it's still good until something like the end of 2031, which is a darn shame because that type of system makes social interactions in taverns so much better.

RE: Real Crafting
Man this issue has been the bane of my existence for so long. I've always disliked how most games "solve" it by just making certain recipes including rarer and rarer things. So lazy imho. Instead, I love the idea of skill based crafting, which is something at least one of my most anticipated games coming out has as a primary component. I also think you should really have go dedicate yourself to crafting in one area, which in many ways would help with this issue, as people could choose to be a type of crafter which there aren't many of.

Yeah well said Prometheus. For every company trying to break us out of this crappy MMO direction we seem to he stuck in theres naysayers doing nothing but saying "it's not possible, you surely cant do X with what you have". Personally I live on the other side of the fence where I support those studios with a vision and the gall to try something new and different. And as someone who played the recent alpha it was pretty damn smooth for a true alpha. I was really impressed with how far this game has come in a short period of time.
