[FRAC-2360] 'Invalid Target'?

I know there are some issues with unarmed/close range melee rn, but wanted to start a thread in case someone else has had this problem too:
My toon is a mixed build for unarmed/mage w lots of slippery. Tried killing some wolves and get an 'invalid target' message when I use magic missle & shocking lash at close range.
The spells seem to work on things that are some distance away tho. Am I doing something stupid or is this a bug?
