An MMO Free of Levels and Classes?
-
Possibly, I just find it hard to imagine the devs would make several versions of each weapon just for that, especially seeing as they're a small indie team. Making the numbers a bit different would take drastically less time, and I doubt anyone would complain.
-
@nelchael If the game is successful they will be able to do it in the future.
-
I think most of the player base would prefer it if they used their resources on new gear and content, rather than making slightly different versions of already existing items.
-
@nelchael I think the best choice would be on graphic look. I will drop the game if it became gear based. If you make gear to be slighty powerfull every versions (aka tiers) the progression became vertical. Something they don't want to do. Luckly.
-
True, but would you really rather see ten variations of an iron sword instead of new recipes and materials for interesting weapons and armour?
-
@nelchael yep I do that's why I buy skins on mobas to change the look when I want XD.
-
I guess everyone's different. I personally prefer a large variety in equipment types, since it lets me mix and match them to make a unique look for myself. I hate wearing exactly the same outfit as five thousand other people, which is partly the reason why I dislike MOBAs. In my opinion individuality is important in an MMO, especially a sandbox.
-
I think that if I am understanding it correctly if we were able to flesh out the stats of our characters with progression and that allows us to build into the things that we like. That way we don't necessarily fall into a class and with swapping around we could go to many different places.
A game like this is like Mortal Online where you can build up your different stats and your weapon proficiency and this allows you to go anywhere.
-
@nelchael that's why you get different skins. having tiers means that all goes for the top tier. have lots of skins means everyone pick what's looks better for hem.
-
@nelchael I think a big thing here is that some stuff needs to be unique or you need to work to get to the special gear. I think it is fine if the first tier of gear is pretty universal but after you play for x number of hours and achieve a lot of strong feats you should be able to get things that are more unique. This allows for the players to challenge themselves to get to where they want to be. The more unique the harder they should be to obtain that way if you see someone in a very hard to obtain item you automatically want to challenge yourself to get to that point.
I hate when people are allowed to have a "catch-up" mechanic. I just think this totally disconnects and discredits the world from where we were to start.
-
@mrchipps 50% right you can rebuild but not reassign your attributes as far I know. We (communty) talked about this months ago I don't rember the answer
-
Which is exactly why I'd rather have completely different, new weapons (everyone picks what looks better for them), rather than many tiers of the same weapon (everyone goes for the top tier).
-
@nelchael many tiers? makes everyone go for the top so everyone will be the same. No plz.
-
... That's exactly what I just said.
-
@nelchael I kinda like how path of exile does it. You could have many different weapons with many different unique benefits that all are different strengths and weaknesses based on how you build your character. This may be something interesting to experiment with in an MMO world.
-
@mrchipps none said that should not be hard to get. I'm just saying that should be cosmetic only. I don't care how hard is. but if you put tiers (gear based) everyone will get the best. All this is a vertical system.

iffere
Will they at least be restricted from the higher difficulty planets/areas? The strategy of making everyone able to beat everyone is too taliored to the casual player. Where is the reward for the hardcore player?
-
@buffybean hard core player = skill. If you are not skilled you are just a casual/social.
-
I don't know, I keep reading "gear won't matter". If that's the case then why invest any time in creating the game assets for it. Make one set of bland grey gear and a shitload of cosmetics.
I have a real hard time believing gear will do nothing for a player.

@kellewic cause everyone loves to look cool and play a game with good effects.
