What about a system like EVE. You can search market places around all over the map, but when you buy goods they will not be instantly delivered to you. You will have to go and pick them up yourself. And this is where contracts come into play to get goods moved.

RE: Contracts?
In EVE the map layout has obvious choke points, because you travel with jumpgates and certain paths only have 1 route to go through, unless you want to detour for 30+ jumps.
My guess is that for fractured the worlds are more open and will have less choke points.
And besides, maybe the feline beastmen will have a stealth skill, so they can just sneak through any choke point with bad people.@Jetah You in EVE Concord (space police) scans ship for illegal cargo, but there is a good way around that and that is by putting your illegal goods in a container and then put that container in another container.

RE: Contracts?
An exploit that is happening in EVE is people set up a contract or something worthless, put up a high collateral value on it and a good payout. They also usually pick a location with 1 way in and out and then just camp there when someone picks up the contract and when the person who took it gets into the system they jump him and destroy the ship.
Since the delivery failed, they get the collateral value payed out to them.To counter this you simply could add a thumbs up or down vote in the end of a contract so it's easier to spot who the trustworthy ones are and who not.

RE: PK punishment
@severinus said in PK punishment:
I would ask for a 'faith' system where behaving according to the ways of the main worshipped god, e. g. for beast-people behaving peacefully, greeting other and not attacking anyone and anything in sight unprovoked is rewarded by this god, so that the character is protected by his god in his home realm, when instead of fighting he turns to praying to his deity. If he has proven his faith before, then he is protected, if he tried to pk himself, a peaceful god would not protect him. If one wishes to join in the fight, praying later should not be an option anymore to escape from a fight. In that way you can add a role-playing component, where choices matter and add a protection for players who wish to avoid pvp at all cost, but have to behave more in consent with their protective deity. Respectively, in the demon world deities or archdemons of chaos and destruction would support their aggressive, backstabbing followers with buffs for fighting, as this is their realm and the other gods have no saying there.
I kinda like this idea

RE: Contracts?
No, not like a buy order as you already have the resources, it's a courier-contract, but you want them moved to another planet, city or to your workshop/farm so you can craft stuff out of it.
So you pay someone or a group of people even to safely transport the goods for you, so if you are not very combat capable, you have less risk, while others who have good combat skills can make some money. In EVE there are quite a few corporations (clans) based around just moving stuff around for people.

Contracts?
Here's an idea I had for a feature in the game.
Players who played EVE-Online will know it and it's called contracts.
An in game feature that allows you to set up a contracts. For instance you are shop keeper and you have precious materials that need to be moved, you can put up a contract. In the contract you can fill in the collateral value that the contract owner pays up front and will get it back when the contract is completed, to make sure the courier doesn't just run off with your goods. You will also have to fill in an expiration date. If the courier fails to deliver the goods in time, the collateral value will be paid out to you.And also fill in the pay out for a completed contract. This could even be used to hire mercenaries to help defend you on the road, or help to take over a town or whatnot.
Another good option would be to have a rating system added.
At the end of a contract both sides will choose a simple positive or negative rating (or maybe a 1-5 star rating), so others can see how reliable others are. -
RE: Didn't get my newsletter
Mine ended up in the trash folder. Good thing I always check the mails in there before I permanently delete them.

RE: PK punishment
In my experience, open world PvP and PvE simply don't mix very well together.
I was a tester for another game I can't remember the name of right now, that tried to mix PvP and PvE in 1 server.
It was going well until the bullies/PK players showed up. Killing everything and everyone, even the new players.
The PvE-ers tried to make a stand, build bases with defenses, but the game defenses for bases were pity and only need 2 players or 1 skilled player to take down a base. As a PvE-er group we talked to the devs and nothing was done.
And eventually the PvE players started to leave the game and then the PK-ers started to leave the game as well as there were no more PvE-ers building bases for them to attack and the game now is just dead.So I do hope the defenses they talk about on Arboreus are very good ones, so even new players can defend themselves against PK-ers walking around Arboreus.
Or simply make Arboreus a zone where you don't drop any loot for others to pickup when you die.

RE: Griefing/Ganking ?
But the PvE players are the ones that will be making your food and the armor and weapons you are using.
Making their life miserable to a point they stop playing will be bad as then there will be nobody left to make food and armor and weapons.
Besides, anyone can beat up a kid and steal their lollypop, but wouldn't it be more fun to fight against other players who are more equal to you. Make it a real challenge. -
RE: Griefing/Ganking ?
And with responses like above here... I already start losing interest into the game...

RE: Farming (crops)
@benseine said in Farming (crops):
If you can have a harvest once a year ingame, that means I would have to attend my farm once a month in RL?
There will be a lot more to do on a farm probably. Like weeding, watering, pest control, seeding, plowing, cultivating etc.
Probably even multiple plots with different crops that can be harvested at different times. Crops that can be harvested in summer and winter crops etc. -
RE: Farming (crops)
How deep will the rabbit hole go? Like, does it also have soil exhaustion? When you grow the same crop in the same place over and over you will less harvest from the crops every time as there are not enough nutrients in the soil anymore. So we will have to do a crops rotation. (I would really love to see this in the game).

Ok, thanks @Prometheus, that is very good to know.
