Possible VIP Subscription Idea
Lots of people ask about a VIP subscription and I think it could be a great idea. An interesting idea I have seen though that could help it generate money, but at the same time, not affect gameplay...
Make the VIP subscription "Cosmetic." Where maybe their name has a special color, or they have a special border around their profile. Make it have no affect on game play in any way. Give them a special weekly or monthly developer Q&A call where they are the first to learn about planned things, and then those VIPs can choose to leak or not that info until it is official. Do other things that make them feel like VIPs outside of the game which can also encourage them to spread the word about becoming a VIP or even just getting more people to try out the game.

RE: What about solo players?
The nature of a Sandbox, due to the freedoms it gives, will inherently make group play much stronger than solo play. That said there can definitely be some good systems put in place to make soloing fun, and I hope they do that.
I really hope they make it easy to find groups of players to play with though. The hardest thing for me when I join an MMO is that I want to play with a group, but don't know anyone in the community yet. So having an easy way to ease into the community as a whole would be awesome!

RE: Bit worried where the Kickstarter is
It's actually going fairly well. One of the challenges is exposure. They have drilled into the community so much, the importance of the website and interaction on the website that not much is happening on the campaign itself. When doing a KS you want all focus to be on the KS. Get community talking there, update every day or multiple times a day. Any reveals should happen there and not on the website.
Because of how things have been set up, I think they will meet the minimum on KS which is fine and then focus on sales on the website which will end up making much more because there is so much focus already on the site.
I think so great education around funding a game can be had by watching the Crowfall dev streams where they talk about cost of acquisition, projected churn rate, etc... Not fun game related stuff to talk about, but really important for any business to know.
