I think if you're going to choose to build in the wild rather than in a town, you'll have to decide where you want to build, based on not only what nearby creature spawns are, but travel to and from where you want to go, and what materials are nearby. In short, I don't consider this one a bug, but a potential feature if you use it correctly. I don't think spawns should happen within a building site as has been mentioned here, but close? Yes, that could well be a feature.
