Is there a reason why group knowledge isn't shared with the whole group?

I find it weird that we have to kill things to get knowledge points and skills. Yet when we form a party to kill monsters, everyone has to hit the monster to get the knowledge.

If you do nothing you will get nothing. That being said it needs some tweaking. Like if i play like a tank i make sure i take the damage comes to me, bud do little my self, i fell i need to get some exp for my part in it.
