FibS's big dumb semi-curated NOT official "I want this kind of Beastman!" topic

  • TF#7 - AMBASSADOR

(There was a topic about future races before, but the link has died, so I'm making this.)

    Hello peeps!

There's a possibility that as the game goes on, we might see more kinds of Beastman. The following are our starters:

    • Bear (Nheedra)
    • Hart (Erwydra)
    • Tiger (Chadra)
    • Wolf (Udoadra)

They will all be available in male and female variations.

BUT I WANT MORE!! (Surprise surprise the damn furry wants more Beastmen.)

Suggest more kinds of Beastmans here and I may add them to the Want List below! (If I can keep up.) I'm starting the topic with only the one that I really want (Rabbit); the rest of you can just go crazy, we'll see how it goes. x_x

After this initial mindstorm, I'll work on identifying the most popular races while the game enters a more stable development state, and then somewhere down the yellow brick road we'll see about petitioning the team to add one. (Maybe they'll run a Kickstarter for it. DOOOH HO HO HO HO)

    Limitations

Beastmen can swap to a "primal" animal form. Every form has a gimmick, e.g.

    • Tiger: Pursuit-based agility
    • Wolf: Party buffs
    • Bear: Becomes juggernaut
    • Hart: Escape-based agility

Consequently, the animal you pick needs to work in both forms and, most likely, not be too different from the four we've got. Because of this...

    • Really big animals might be a problem (e.g. elephant, giraffe)
    • Really small animals might be a problem (e.g. rabbit, mouse)
    • Flying animals might be a problem (e.g. bat, bird)
    • Aquatic-only animals are most likely right out (e.g. dolphin, whale)
    • Fantasy animals are most likely right out (e.g. dragon, unicorn)
    • Bugs are probably not allowed?? Not sure
    • If you can, include the basic traits of your race as I've done with Rabbit

    The Want List

    Legend

    • (S) means this animal might be too small
    • (B) means this animal might be too big
    • (D) means this animal might be too different, e.g. is mythological, doesn't "walk", is not "an animal" like a bug, etc.

    List

    • (D) Bird / Eagle / Owl / Crow / Magpie (by @Kralith )
      • Kralith hypothesized a "sub-sub-race" system, but in the very rare event we got multiple birds, I think they should just be different families to begin with
      • Exploration- or scouting-focused stats
      • Owl has night vision? Magpie is sneaky thief?
      • FibS's conjecture: Birds of prey often only excel in 1v1 or ganking
      • FibS's note: Although birds "fly", these would only fly along the ground, of course
    • Lizard (by @Genobee )
      • Improved health regeneration / incoming healing
      • Tail attack? Poisonous? Camoflauge powers?
      • Likely leans towards solo play
    • Monkey / Gorilla (by @KingExodus )
      • Strong, intelligent
      • Leaping ability?? Stat boost when with other Monkeys??
      • (FibS conjecture) Possible spike damager / ganker
    • (S) Rabbit (by FibS)
      • Speedy, delicate, physical
      • Escape powers similar to Hart
      • Leans towards archer or rogue
    • (S) Rat (by @Kralith )
      • Fast, intelligent
      • Improved hiding ability; rogueish?
      • Group support for raids??
    • Rhino (by @KingExodus )
      • High physical defense, but not magical
      • Charge can bowl enemies over
      • Bruiser-type
    • (S) Squirrel (by @FibS )
      • Fast, viciously aggressive when provoked
      • Powerful ability to evade / parry and counter attacks
      • Good rogue or fencer
    • Turtle (by @Dragomok )
      • Slow, durable
      • Can retreat into shell
      • Probably a facetanker

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

There are so many animals you can actually think of. One of the anime "Killing Bites" will help a lot. Since the anime is revolving around animals with natural powers and ability to transform.

    • Bear: Becomes juggernaut

Bear: starts to care, becomes care bear. In care bear form player is unable to use any combat abilities, but can sing really nice. While care bear is singing, all other nearby care bears in range are forced to dance.

Haha, furry is not bad 😛
I really like scalies animals, and as there will not be dragons, I go with their descendants, snakes ! (as it might be to little, it depend if we take a boa or not ^^). His first attack has a high chance to poisoned his target. He's pretty weak but have a good level in agility.

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

i guess that if you can drop 10k as a backer they'll create the one you want!

  • TF#4 - EMISSARY

    Monkey/Gorilla

    • Very Strong
    • Intelligent
    • Increased Leaping Ability
    • All stats increased when in party with other gorillas/monkeys

    @FibS

  • TF#4 - EMISSARY

    haha. furry.

no wait you actually said that in the op post. so much for my joke

  • TF#7 - AMBASSADOR

If we're going for something relatable, I'd go with turtles/tortoises (especially since they come in sizes comparable to wolves). Slow, ponderous, they'd enjoy heightened defences that are completely nullified by the power of brisk walking pace.
Transformation would serve as a panic button that would enable you to hide in your shell and be even more useless.

    ...

More seriously: I'd love a character that specializes in drive-by healing (so: fast, stats focused on healing), but I can't think of an animal that would convey this concept easily.

That would be the Hart. =p

I think a Turtle would be a good addition, though. They'd be believable in size class and the animal's stereotype hooks right into a clear role

    Rats

    • fast, hidden, rogue like
    • great group support for fast raiding
    • intelligent

  • TF#4 - EMISSARY

    Rhinos

    • Reduced incoming damage on all physical attacks (not spells)
    • Has a special charge ability, that knocks back enemies.
    • Gives party members increased defense stats
    • Leans toward Tank/Bruiser

Just say Rhino-Kin out loud...it even sounds dope

  • TF#11 - PROCONSUL

Eh, I'm bored. None of this will probably make sense. I didn't put a whole lot of sense into it. Just felt like taking part in the fun for the sake of it. Might try to refine it later perhaps.

    Lizards

    • Passive healing over time

    • Lesser ability with healing spells/abilities

    Unsure of any of these:

    • Special ability to attack with tail, causing some sort of disorienting effect with low to moderate damage

    • Excel at blending into certain areas, making them tougher to spot

Maybe something that'd make them more attuned for solo/small group play but offer very little to larger teams?

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

Saw the first three on the list and thought, why don't they just do the Chinese Zodiac?

  • Wiki Editor

With Birds it would be possible to implement a SubSubrace
But way better, if the bird will be an animal of a Druid for using its special abilities.

    base abilities:

    • sharped senses (+dexterity, +agility, +exploration)
    • examples:
      • eagle = fast hunter
      • owl = nightvision
      • crow = scout
      • magpie = silent thief
    • increased gain of magical Knowledge

  • TF#7 - AMBASSADOR

I came back and updated. I also added Squirrel.

    • Fast, viciously aggressive when provoked
    • Powerful ability to evade / parry and counter attacks
    • Good rogue or fencer

And also high charisma, to account for squirrels' absolute adorability.

  • TF#12 - PEOPLE'S HERALD

You have put so much thought into this.

  • TF#4 - EMISSARY

    Fox race please q,...,q

  • TF#5 - LEGATE

So, this might be in the far future, but if they ever put in islands on the map, it would be very cool to have a "selkie" beastman that could turn into a seal, and be the only one that could make their way to the islands. The islands might have harvestables found nowhere else, so they would have a monopoly on those.

That would be the good thing. The bad thing would be that selkies would have no other advantages, so they would be the worst beastman in battle. In other words, this race would be for someone who primarily wants to spend their time exploring and gathering, and participates in battle (both PVE and PVP) as little as possible.

  • TF#10 - CONSUL

Hyena-kin. Added after lions. A beastkin that starts neutral or even evil (cannot go abomination or good).
