35 hours in and some thoughts....

  • First let me say thanks to Jahlon over at Paradox Gaming Network for the alpha key, good dude like his content and YouTube videos.

On to the game, normally I don't post in forums, its not worth the aggravation you'll get dealing with the majority of toxic responses but seeing this is an alpha ill go ahead.

First ill be honest, this game wont be for everyone. If you're a solo player with limited time and or online gamer friends you'll become extremely frustrated with the game dynamics.
You are limited with what you can do in the game until you become part of a city and that's not an easy thing to do and it has its own set of frustrations. Sure there are a lot people spamming "join my city, I need sigs" but buyer beware of those invites.

Once in a city and you want to craft you're limited to access restrictions and other players needing to use the crafting stations.

Basically you're "gated" behind a lot restrictions . Its like a form of gaming socialism IMO.

Now for some annoying AF game mechanics. And I know its Alpha.

    1. You need a Global chat ignore or at least hide the thing. No need to expand on that.
    2. Autorun, maybe this is in the game. I just don't know but the starting and stopping running is choppy as hell and FFS I'm tired of clicking my mouse 19 billions times as I travel across the map.
    3. Fighting multiple mobs and the loot box coming up and losing target sucks. Again maybe there is a mechanic I'm missing but I haven't figured it out.
    4. Applying for citizenship to a town. If you don't get a response in a few hours have the application drop and you need some sort of notification system other than it popping up with the global chat and crafting stuff.

I didn't come across a lot of gaming breaking bugs but I am also limited on what I can do because I'm not part of a city.

In review if you have an already established gaming community (group of friends or family ) this game can be fun its built for that but if you're a solo player or casual player trying to play the game I think you'll become frustrated or worse and I for one am not willing to pay real money to be frustrated with my entertainment. That's just not entertaining. Like I said in the beginning this game wont be for everyone. But its still very early and this has a lot of potential.

    fair comments.

I am also finding the 'clicking' and pathfinding to walk around a little broken. I assume this mechanic will be polished before release!

I'm also in agreement about being a solo player could be limiting. I tend to play solo, and so far, I am having fun but I can see the walls and content I'll be restricted to if I continue down this route. Thats not to say its a bad thing, It will just make me play more socially.

I'd also like to see some form of inventory and bag sorting. moving stuff around gets old quickly!

Other than that, totally enjoying my play through!

To be honest, this game is already more polished than Mortal Online when it first came out.

For the solo thing... This alpha rolled out guilds, town management, etc. so they are prob not wanting to test solo content anyway. Other than that, its an MMO...solo players are always left behind.

Chat... there needs to be Tabs, direct messages (whispers/tells), and the ability to make our own channels for the "game of thrones"/politics thing.

Autorun...its not that type of game. I have been telling my friends and community members that this is basically a persistent world PoE with RTS parts...neither of which have an autorun feature.

Targeting... in general this does indeed need alot of work. Unless PvP is enabled, PCs should be click-through. I am a mage in game and i spend half the time running around the melee guys trying to find an angle that allows me to click on the mob...

Just now about to found a town, so cant talk to those points just yet.

Indeed the chat needs a lot of polishing.
    I am suggesting:

    • configurable chat tabs
    • autoscroll on/off
    • more chat types like City, PM, Trade, Help

Autorun, maybe this is in the game. I just don't know but the starting and stopping running is choppy as hell and FFS I'm tired of clicking my mouse 19 billions times as I travel across the map.

You don't need to click each time, just press and hold your mouse button and you will be nice walking in direction of your pointer.
But if i remember right, there was a comment by Prometheus somewhen and somewhere, that they think about how to make it more QoL.

Fighting multiple mobs and the loot box coming up and losing target sucks. Again maybe there is a mechanic I'm missing but I haven't figured it out.

As long you are infight , you should not be able to click loot.
For some actions it already is like this. And yes, it is not nice, if you accidentially click on a corpse and get the loot window, if you wanted to hit another mob instead.
But you can try to use right click for fighting instead, that does not trigger the opening/interact mechanic.
In general it is a good thing to report such things in a seperate theme specific post in the Alpha Forum.
Each experience report is helpful, especially, if there is some description, how you think, it will work better for all.

Applying for citizenship to a town. If you don't get a response in a few hours have the application drop and you need some sort of notification system other than it popping up with the global chat and crafting stuff.

A notification would be for sure a very good idea.
